Hey everyone! I just recently joined the club and picked up a 2022 Nissan Frontier. I’m super stoked to finally get it off the pavement and onto some trails, but I’m honestly a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of aftermarket gear available. I’ve been doing a lot of reading on various builds, but it seems like everyone has a different opinion on what is actually necessary for a solid setup.

I’m planning on doing some weekend overlanding and hitting some moderate forest trails, so I definitely feel like I need more ground clearance and better traction than the stock setup provides. I’m currently torn between jumping straight into a 2-inch lift kit or focusing on protective gear like skid plates and rock sliders first, especially since those low-hanging components on the Frontier make me a little nervous on rocky paths. I’ve looked into brands like Alldogs Offroad and Z1 Off-Road, but I want to make sure I'm spending my initial $2,000 budget wisely. I still use this truck as my daily driver, so I’m really trying to avoid anything that is going to make the highway ride feel super stiff or noisy.

For those of you who have been building these trucks for a while, which specific off-road accessories would you say are the absolute 'must-haves' to make a Frontier trail-ready while keeping it practical for the road?

In my experience, I would suggest focusing on the "invisible" upgrades first. I've been building Nissans for over a decade and I've seen too many guys spend $2k on a fancy lift only to realize they still have zero traction on wet clay or they've bashed a rocker panel cuz they didn't have protection... basically, its all about balance.

Option A: Big Lift ($1,200+) - Great for looks, but can make the highway ride feel kinda stiff.
Option B: Protection/Tires ($1,700) - Best choice for a daily driver that actually hits trails.

Here's what I recommend:
* BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 LT265/70R17 ($950ish). These are the gold standard for daily/trail balance.
* Hefty Fabworks Nissan Frontier Rock Sliders ($700). These are literally lifesavers for ur rocker panels on rocky paths.
* Alldogs Offroad Complete Lift Kit with Bilstein 5100s ($900). If you can stretch the budget later, this keeps the highway ride smooth without the noise.

I'd go tires and sliders first... peace of mind is worth more than an extra inch of clearance on moderate trails. Good luck tho!

This^ Also wanted to add you gotta be careful with ur budget. Honestly, I’d suggest grabbing skids first since that oil pan is sooo exposed. * Z1 Off-Road Steel Engine Skid Plate
* Asfir 4x4 Front Skid Plate for Nissan Frontier It’s way cheaper than a new engine and keeps things reliable. Just make sure to watch the weight so ur MPG doesn't tank and be careful with the install!! peace
