So I finally pulled the trigger on a 2022 Frontier SV 4x4 last month and I'm itching to get it off the pavement but I'm getting a bit overwhelmed with the forum threads. I've been looking at the Nismo off-road parts because they look cool and keep the warranty happy but then I see people on Reddit saying that stuff is way overpriced and I should just go with an ADO lift or some Bilstein 5100s. My main confusion is that most of the advice seems geared toward the Pro-4X trim and I'm not sure if the same suspension advice applies to the SV since I don't have the locker or the same factory shocks to begin with.
I live up in Washington state so I'm mostly dealing with wet forest service roads and a lot of deep mud and some light rock crawling when I head over to the eastern side of the state. I'm trying to be smart about this since it's also my daily commuter.
Here is what I am looking for:
I'm thinking maybe tires first? But some people say skid plates are more important if I'm doing the forest roads and I don't want to bash the oil pan on my new truck. What would you guys prioritize first for a non-Pro4X build that still needs to get me to work on Mondays?
> My main confusion is that most of the advice seems geared toward the Pro-4X trim I've been thinking about your shock concerns since you mentioned the SV trim. The geometry is basically identical. For PNW mud, compare Toyo Open Country A/T III 265/70R17 against BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 265/70R17. The Toyos stay quieter on commutes. For protection, the ARB 4x4 Under Vehicle Protection Nissan Frontier kit is a methodical, professional choice that secures your oil pan without paying the Nismo markup.
Just found this thread. Simple mods worked best for me.
Yo, congrats on the SV. I've been running a similar setup in the PNW for a year and I'm very satisfied with how it handles. You're right to skip Nismo if you're on a budget; the markup is mostly for the name. Since you have the SV, your shocks are softer than the Pro-4X, so Bilstein 5100 Series Front Shock 24-322119 will level the truck and improve dampening without ruining the commute. Here's how I'd spend that $2500:
