I recently took delivery of my 992 Carrera, and while I absolutely love the car, the stock plastic key fob feels a bit underwhelming compared to the rest of the interior. I’m looking to upgrade to something that feels more premium and tactile. I’ve seen some of the factory leather pouches, but I’m really looking for a high-quality, custom-made leather cover or replacement side blades that offer a more bespoke look.
I’m particularly interested in finding a shop that can match the interior stitching—mine is GT Silver—or perhaps find a leather that matches the Agate Grey upholstery. I’ve looked at some of the mass-produced options on Amazon and eBay, but the fitment and leather quality just don’t seem to be there. I’d prefer something slim that doesn't add too much bulk in my pocket, ideally with a high-grade Epsom or Cordovan leather. Has anyone here commissioned a custom leather fob or found a boutique vendor that specializes in 992-specific key accessories? Would love to see some photos of your setups and get an idea of the pricing and lead times!
For your situation, I would suggest looking into a boutique artisan who specializes in hand-stitched leather goods rather than a mass-market brand. I totally get the frustration with the plastic fob... it is like Porsche spent all the budget on the PDK and just forgot the thing you actually hold lol.
I actually grabbed a custom Epsom leather cover for my 992 a few months back and the difference is AMAZING. Since the 992 fob is basically a chunky wedge, the technical fitment is super tricky. The high-end guys usually do a "molded" wrap or replace the side blades with thin, skived leather pieces. Honestly, it feels sooo much more premium and tactile in the hand without adding any bulk to your pocket.
I'm pretty sure you can find a shop on IG or Etsy that uses Fil Au Chinois linen thread to match that GT Silver stitching exactly. I went with a custom shop based in Singapore for mine, and they used a 0.5mm thickness leather so it stays sleek. I think I paid around 130 bucks and the lead time was like three weeks, which isnt too bad for something handmade. Seriously, stay away from the cheap Amazon covers; the leather quality is lowkey terrible and the fitment is always off. If you want that bespoke look, definitely go the commission route... it's literally a game changer for the interior vibes!! gl!
