I just took delivery of a 718 Cayman, but unfortunately, I've lost my garage space for the next few months. I’m pretty stressed about leaving it exposed to the elements, especially with the intense summer UV rays and occasional heavy rain we get here. I’ve been looking at options like Covercraft and the official Porsche Tequipment covers, but I’m worried about wind lofting or the fabric trapping moisture against the paint. I need something with a soft inner lining to prevent micro-scratches and a very snug, custom fit. Does anyone have long-term experience with a specific outdoor cover that holds up well? Is the OEM Porsche outdoor cover actually worth the extra cost?

TL;DR from this thread: Most folks are leaning towards that breathable fabric setup to keep moisture from getting trapped. Honestly, I've been there with my own cars over the years and learned that a snug fit is EVERYTHING if you want to avoid those micro-scratches. Basically, the consensus is that high-quality material is worth it, but you definitely gotta make sure the paint is 100% clean before covering it up!!

sooo i totally get the stress... leaving a new 718 outside is basically a nightmare for any owner. in my experience, the Covercraft Custom Fit Noah Car Cover is the way to go if you're worried about moisture. i've used it for years and it's super breathable so it doesn't trap condensation against the paint like some cheap ones do.

- it's got a really soft inner lining to prevent those micro-scratches you're worried about
- the fit is literally perfect for the cayman body lines
- way better value than the official Porsche Tequipment Outdoor Car Cover imo

just make sure the car is CLEAN before covering it or you'll scratch the clear coat anyway... honestly highkey worth the peace of mind. gl!

Honestly, the OEM cover is okay but I've found it's mostly about the logo. For real safety, look into a custom WeatherShield HD... it's thicker and resists UV way better long-term!

Stumbled upon this discussion and felt the need to share my experience because, unfortunately, my journey with outdoor covers has been pretty disappointing. I have gone through several high-end setups for my 718 and the results were never quite as good as expected.

  • I initially tried the Coverking Autobody Armor Custom Car Cover thinking the multiple layers would provide the best impact protection, but it was far too heavy and trapped heat against the clear coat during the summer months.
  • The technical reality is that most breathable fabrics eventually lose their hydrophobic properties, so after a heavy rain, the material just sits damp against the car for days which is exactly what you want to avoid.
  • I also had issues with wind lofting despite using additional clips; the constant micro-movements of the fabric during storms ended up leaving light marring on the fenders that required a stage one paint correction. Its a frustrating trade-off because no matter how much you spend, you are basically managing a set of compromises when you dont have a garage. My current setup is better, but it still requires me to pull the cover off every single time the sun comes out just to let the paint breathe.
