I’ve recently picked up a 991.2 Carrera and, while I love the car, the stock exhaust note is just a bit too quiet for my liking. I’m looking for a performance upgrade that adds some aggressive growl without being obnoxious or causing highway drone. I've been looking at options like Soul Performance and Akrapovič, but I’m torn between a full system or just high-flow cats. Does anyone have experience with which setup offers the best power gains versus sound quality? I’m specifically curious if the valved systems are worth the extra cost for a daily driver. What specific exhaust setups are you guys running on your 911s to get that perfect flat-six scream?
Curious about one thing: are you planning on tuning the ECU later on, or just sticking to hardware mods for now?? Honestly, over the years I've found that the 991.2 platform reacts very differently to exhaust changes depending on the software side of things.
In my experience, if you're chasing that perfect flat-six scream without the drone, the technical sweet spot is usually found in the headers and cats rather than just the rear muffler. Basically, the stock turbo manifolds are pretty restrictive. I've tried many setups, and Vektor Performance 991.2 Carrera Performance Headers combined with a high-flow cat setup like the Fabspeed 991.2 Carrera Sport Cat X-Pipe really opens up the flow. It adds a much more mechanical, raw tone because you're improving the actual exhaust pulse before it hits the turbos. Valved systems are definitely worth it tho—it's literally the difference between a quiet morning commute and a weekend blast. Lmk about the tune plans cuz that changes which diameter piping I'd recommend!!
Did this last week, worked perfectly

For your situation, I'd definitely suggest looking at some more budget-friendly paths before dropping 5-10k on a full titanium setup. Since you're worried about drone and cost, maybe consider the AWE Tuning SwitchPath Exhaust for Porsche 991.2 Carrera. It's a valved system, and seriously, for a daily driver, those valves are SO worth it. You can keep it quiet when leaving the neighborhood but then open it up when you wanna hear that flat-six scream, you know?
Another solid value play is the SharkWerks+991.2+Carrera+Exhaust+Sport+Tips+and+Center+Muffler+Bypass&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">SharkWerks 991.2 Carrera Exhaust Sport Tips and Center Muffler Bypass. It’s way cheaper than a full system but basically wakes up the turbo engine without making it obnoxious on the highway. I guess it really comes down to how much you wanna spend... but honestly, high-flow cats give the best bang-for-your-buck for power gains, right? Just be careful about the smell if you go too aggressive. Good luck with the build, the 991.2 is such a beast!!
Yep, this is the way

yo, congrats on the 991.2! honestly, i went through this exact same dilemma with mine about 2 years ago. the turbo engines in the .2 definitely need some help to wake up that flat-six soul, you know? i ended up installing the Soul Performance Products 991.2 Carrera Sport Catalytic Converters and it was literally the best mod i've ever done.
so basically, if you want the best bang for your buck, high-flow cats are the secret sauce. the factory 700-cell cats are super restrictive and quiet down those turbos way too much. switching to 200-cell cats gives you that aggressive growl and lets you actually hear the turbos spooling up, which sounds amazing!! i saw a dyno-proven gain of about 20-25 hp just from the cats alone cuz they reduce backpressure so much.
but yeah, regarding the valves... if you daily the car, you HIGH-KEY need a valved system. i paired my sport cats with the Soul Performance Products 991.2 Carrera Valved Exhaust System and it's perfect. when the valves are closed, there is zero drone on the highway, basically stock levels of quiet. but when you hit that button? it opens up a straight-through path that sounds like a GT3 screaming at high RPMs. i also looked at the Akrapovic Slip-On Line Titanium Exhaust S-PO/TI/4H which is pure art, but honestly, the Soul setup gave me the exact tone i wanted for a bit less cash. if you want that perfect scream without being obnoxious to your neighbors, definitely go valved with sport cats! gl with the build, you’re gonna love it tho!
