I just took delivery of my new Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo and I am absolutely loving the drive so far. However, I am starting to realize that my home charging setup and my on-the-road kit could probably use some upgrades. The mobile charger that comes with the car is decent, but I have been reading some forum posts suggesting that it can get a bit hot during long sessions, and I would really prefer something more robust for daily use.

I am currently looking for recommendations on a high-quality Level 2 home wall box that works well with the Taycan software. I have a NEMA 14-50 outlet ready to go in my garage, so something plug-and-play would be ideal, though I am open to hardwiring if it provides significantly better speeds. Additionally, I do a fair bit of weekend traveling to more remote areas, so I am curious if there are any specific portable cables or adapters you all recommend keeping in the frunk for emergencies. Are there any particular brands like ChargePoint, Wallbox, or even the Tesla Tap adapters that you find work best with the Taycan port placement?

I want to make sure I am getting the most efficient charging speeds without compromising the battery health. For those who have been driving the Cross Turismo for a while, which charging accessories have become essential parts of your daily setup?

  • For your situation, get the Grizzl-E Classic NEMA 14-50. Its a $350 tank. Honestly, expensive smart chargers Ive owned unfortunately just fail early and arent worth the extra cash.

Quick question - before I give advice, what is ur total budget for everything? Honestly, I have had issues with those expensive smart units failing unfortunately, so I am gonna suggest cheaper, bulletproof options like:

  • Lectron NEMA 14-50 Level 2 EV Charger ($200)
  • Lectron Tesla to J1772 48 Amp Adapter But yeah, what price range are we talking? Also, are those remote spots using NEMA 14-50 or just regular wall outlets?

sooo, oh man, congrats on the Cross Turismo!! i just got mine recently too and seriously, it is the best car i have ever owned lol. i totally get the worry about the charger getting hot... i have heard that from a few people and it is kinda sketchy tbh. for my garage, i did a bunch of research and here is my breakdown: 1. ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 WiFi Enabled EV Charger - pros: basically perfect app and very robust. cons: more expensive. this is my top choice for the taycan cuz it handles the software integration really well!

  • Wallbox Pulsar Plus Level 2 Electric Vehicle Smart Charger 40 Amp - pros: sooo compact and looks really cool. cons: the cable can be a bit stiff. best if ur garage is small and u want a clean look.
  • Tesla Tap Mini 60 Amp Tesla to J1772 Adapter - u literally HAVE to get this for your frunk. it lets u use tesla destination chargers which are everywhere in remote areas. i am still a bit of a newbie but these accessories make charging way less stressful. i ended up going with the chargepoint and it is amazing. hope that helps... gl with the new ride!! peace
