I just picked up a new Ram 3500 and I'm planning to pull a 25,000 lb toy hauler this summer. This truck is a total beast, but I want to make sure I’ve got the right setup to keep things stable and safe on long hauls. I'm specifically looking for advice on fifth-wheel hitches—is the B&W Companion the way to go, or should I look into an air-ride setup? Also, are there any must-have tech upgrades like specialized trailer TPMS or mirror extensions that actually fit well? I'm trying to avoid trial and error on expensive gear. What are the absolute essential towing accessories you guys swear by for your 1-ton Rams?

In my experience, you're definitely looking at the right stuff. I'm still kinda new to these heavy loads, but I'm really satisfied with how my setup handles. For that weight, I'm honestly so happy I went with the B&W Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch RVK3300 for Ram Puck System. It's rated for 25,000 lbs and it basically feels indestructible. I guess an air-ride like the Hensley TrailerSaver TS3 Air Ride Hitch would be smoother? But they’re soo heavy to move... kinda overkill maybe?

Also, seriously dont skip the Ram OEM Trailer TPMS Kit. It's a bit technical to install the sensors in the trailer tires but having the pressure data right on the 12-inch dash is literally life-changing. No messy wires or suction cups! Plus, the CIPA 10950 Custom Towing Mirror extensions actually fit the 3500 perfectly without vibrating like the cheap things. Tbh, simple is usually better so you dont have to worry about failures mid-trip. Hope that helps!!

Sooo I went through this last year! I was highkey stressed about gear prices but I found TST 507 Series Trailer TPMS with 6 Flow-Thru Sensors was *actually* great value for keeping me safe. Also, i think I saved a bunch using K-Source 81300 Snap-on Towing Mirrors instead of buying new housings. Honestly it’s been such a fun journey learning to tow this beast!! gl!

Late to the party but totally agree! Last summer my hauler nearly rattled my teeth out. For 25k lbs, check these:

* Gen-Y Hitch GH-7006 Executive Torsion Fifth Wheel Pin Box: Pros: Torsion tech absorbs shock; Cons: Pricey.
* Reese M5 32K Fifth Wheel Hitch for Ram Puck System: Pros: Huge 32k rating; Cons: Heavy.

Basically, get the TireMinder i10 RV TPMS... saved me from a blowout! gl

Torsion tech absorbs shock Agreed, that shock absorption is basically non-negotiable once you hit the 25k mark. Honestly, looking at the market right now, you’re really choosing between two different engineering philosophies: a rigid mechanical connection versus an 'active' isolation system. While the heavy-duty puck hitches are built like tanks, they don't do much for longitudinal stress. If you're gonna be doing heavy miles, most industry veterans suggest moving toward air or torsion tech to meet those SAE J2638 fatigue standards. Tbh, it’s really about protecting your Ram's frame and the trailer's kingpin from 'chucking' and long-term metal fatigue more than just the ride quality.
