Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger on a new Ram 1500 TRX and I am absolutely blown away by the power of the 6.2L Supercharged V8. It is hands down the most fun truck I have ever driven, but I am already looking at ways to make it even better. I want to focus on performance accessories that really enhance the driving experience without getting too crazy with custom tunes just yet.

I have been looking into high-flow cold air intakes to let that supercharger whine really sing, and maybe a cat-back exhaust system to give it a more aggressive growl. I am also considering a leveling kit or some better suspension components to help with the stance and off-road capability. There are so many options out there like Mopar parts or aftermarket brands like Borla and S&B, and it is honestly a little overwhelming to figure out what actually provides a noticeable boost versus what is just for show.

I want to make sure I am investing in parts that are reliable and high-quality. Since this is my daily driver, I do not want anything that makes it unbearable on long highway trips. If you have a TRX, what were the first few mods you installed that you felt were totally worth the money? Specifically, which intake and exhaust setup do you think offers the best balance of performance and sound?

In my experience, you dont have to spend a fortune to make that TRX scream. Comparing S&B vs Mopar intakes: Mopar is pricy, but S&B is half the cost and sounds insane.

  • S&B Filters Cold Air Intake 75-5147 (around $450)
  • Corsa Performance Muffler 21045
  • ReadyLift 1.5 inch Leveling Kit 66-19150 Basically, S&B is the best budget choice. Muffler swaps also save $1k over full cat-back systems. Good luck!

Just sharing my experience: I get the struggle of keeping it daily-driver friendly. I basically settled on the AFE Power Momentum GT Pro 5R Cold Air Intake System 54-72213 because it doesn't mess with the MAF sensor like some cheaper ones. Also, look into Eibach PRO-LIFT-KIT Springs E30-27-011-03-20 instead of spacers to maintain the factory shock valving, but be careful with loud exhausts!

Regarding what #4 said about +1

  • I am totally in the same boat! Just got mine and my head is spinning with all these options. I really want to make it sound meaner but man, the prices for some of these setups are absolutely wild!! I have been spending way too much time comparing stuff like the K&N Performance Air Intake System 63-1582 against the more expensive Mopar gear because I am trying to keep the budget somewhat reasonable. It is honestly so hard to decide what is a legit performance boost and what is just marketing hype... honestly I am just glad I am not the only one feeling a bit lost with all the choices out there! I am even looking at the Flowmaster FlowFX Cat-Back Exhaust System 717918 because it seems way cheaper than the big name brands but i dont want to regret it later... the struggle is real!

  • man, I feel that excitement!! Honestly tho, everyone is focusing on these super specific kits but I think you should just go with Borla and call it a day. I’ve been a DIY guy for years and their stuff is just bulletproof. You dont need to obsess over every little model number. Just grab any of their cat-back systems and the sound will be absolutely mental! I’m a big believer in doing the work yourself too, its just way more rewarding to spend a Saturday in the garage and hear that first cold start after you’ve bolted everything on. Most of these high-end intakes are just over-engineered anyway. Just get some quality pipes and let that supercharger eat! Its gonna be a total beast once you let it breathe. Borla has never let me down on any of my builds, seriously fantastic quality. You’re gonna love the way it sounds!!
