So I finally bit the bullet and traded in my 2019 Laramie for the new Ram 1500 REV and man, the power is insane compared to the old Hemi but Im finding out real quick that an electric truck needs a totally different setup than what I'm used to. Ive been driving Rams since the early 2010s so I know my way around a bed liner and a tool box but this whole frunk situation and the charging cable management is tripping me up.
My main issue right now is that the frunk is basically just a giant empty plastic cave and everything I put in there just slides around like crazy when I take a turn so I need some serious organization ideas for that. Also since range is actually a factor now I'm looking for a bed cover that doesnt kill my miles per kwh because I heard some of the bulky ones can create a lot of drag and I really want to maximize that 500 mile range if I can.
Heres what Im working with:
Ive seen some guys talking about portable power banks to supplement the onboard outlets but I dont know if thats overkill since the REV already has a ton of exportable power. Also wondering if anyone has found a good solution for the under-seat storage since the battery layout changed things a bit under there compared to the ICE models. What are you guys actually using day to day that makes the transition from gas to electric easier? I dont want to buy a bunch of junk that just sits in the garage...
Unfortunately, the under-seat layout is inefficient. I measured it; factory bins waste 20% volume. Du-Ha Under Seat Storage Case 10063 fixes this. TL;DR: RAM's engineering is disappointing.
Man, you are gonna love this truck! I moved from a 2020 Laramie and the REV is just on another planet. That instant torque is amazing!! I totally feel you on the frunk situation though, it is basically a slip-n-slide for your gear if you dont fix it fast. I picked up the Ram OEM Frunk Organizer Divider System and it is fantastic for stopping soccer balls from rolling around like crazy. To keep that massive range from dipping in the PNW wind, you gotta get the BAK Industries BAKFlip MX4 Hard Folding Tonneau Cover. It sits flush so the aero stays tight, and it keeps the rain out perfectly. You can usually find it for around $1100 and it is worth every penny for the weather sealing alone. For the kids fingerprints, I swear by the ScreenProTech RAM 1500 14.5 inch Infotainment Screen Protector. It makes cleaning so much easier and actually cuts down on the glare too! Regarding the charging cable, skip the fancy cases and just get a Lectron EV Charger Cable Hook and Organizer for your garage wall, then use a simple Velcro strap for the frunk. Honestly, dont worry about extra power banks yet. The export power on this thing is a beast and handles my camping setup with zero issues. Its way better than lugging around extra batteries. TL;DR: Get a flush-mount tonneau for range, the OEM frunk dividers for gear, and a screen protector before the kids scratch that beautiful display!
