So I finally pulled the trigger on the REV pre-order and now I'm just sitting here staring at my garage trying to figure out how to actually make this truck work for my lifestyle once it actually shows up late next year. I live out in a pretty rural part of Pennsylvania and I do a lot of weekend carpentry stuff plus some light hauling for my brothers landscaping business so utility is basically the only reason I bought a truck instead of a smaller EV. I've been doing some digging on the forums and everyone talks about the RamBox which sounds cool but I'm worried it takes away too much actual bed width for when I'm loading 4x8 sheets of plywood. I also saw some stuff about bed covers helping with the aero which obviously matters way more for an electric truck than it did on my old Hemi but then I see people saying the hard folding ones are a pain if you have to take them off all the time.
I'm trying to figure out what's actually worth the money specifically for the electric version. I've got about four thousand dollars set aside just for accessories and I want to spend it right the first time. Some of the things I am looking at:
I read that some people are putting these heavy duty slide-out trays in the bed but wouldn't that extra weight just tank my range every single day even when I'm not hauling anything heavy? And what about the frunk situation? It looks huge but I havent seen any good organizers for it yet and I dont want my tools just sliding around and denting the plastic every time I hit a corner. Is there anything out there that actually makes the frunk more useful for a daily work-site setup or any specific bed racks that wont kill the range? I'm trying to decide if I should just stick to the Mopar factory stuff or if the aftermarket scene is actually going to have better options for the battery-specific trade-offs...
I'm pretty happy with my current setup and think you can save a lot of cash by not overcomplicating things. For the frunk, just get the Mopar Ram 1500 Frunk Organizer... it fits the dimensions perfectly so you wont have things clanking around on backroads. It's a solid, reliable choice for the money. On the bed slide concern, weight is definitely the enemy of range. I've found the BedSlide S Series 1000lb Capacity to be a good middle ground. It's sturdy but not as heavy as the commercial steel units. Also, if you're hauling plywood, skip the RamBox. It makes the bed too narrow and you'll regret it first time you load a stack of 4x8. Stick to a simple Mopar Bed Extender Black Aluminum for the extra length. It's a proven design that just works without adding 200 pounds of dead weight.
Im really happy with the Retrax RetraxPRO XR Aluminum Tonneau. Its 500lb capacity works well for cargo, and the low-profile design keeps the aero clean. No complaints on efficiency!
