I just picked up a TRX last week and man this thing is a beast but I took it out to my uncles ranch near Sedona last night and honestly I couldnt see a single thing once I got off the main road. I feel like such a dummy even asking this because I should probably know more if I'm driving a truck like this but I have no clue where to even start with lights. I was looking online and there are so many options like light bars and these little square things called pods and some are yellow and some are white and I'm just totally lost.

My logic was just to buy the biggest bar I could find on Amazon but then I started reading about how some cheap ones might mess up the truck's wiring or even drain the battery and now I'm kinda scared to touch anything. I have about 1500 dollars to spend and I really need to get this sorted by next weekend because I'm supposed to go on a night trail run with some guys from work and I dont want to be the guy holding everyone up because I'm driving blind. Is there like a specific brand that just works with the TRX without having to cut into the truck or anything? I saw stuff about Rigid or Baja something but it looks so complicated with all the brackets and stuff.

  • do I need a special mount for the roof
  • are the yellow ones better for dust
  • is it easy to install if I'm not a mechanic

Sorry if these are really basic questions I'm just super stressed about picking the wrong stuff and wasting money...

Been looking at your budget and regarding what #1 said about Baja Designs, I think they are a bit overpriced. Id look at Diode Dynamics SS3 Max LED Pods for the fogs instead. Pair those with a Diode Dynamics Stage Series 30 inch Light Bar and you will stay under budget. Their TRX brackets are simple bolt-ons, so you wont need a mechanic. Get amber for the Sedona dust tho. Much better value tbh.

@Reply #2 - good point! Diode is definitely the sweet spot for the price. In my experience, I've tried many different setups over the years and nothing ruins a trip faster than a cheap light bar filling with condensation. I remember being out in a storm years ago with budget lights that were basically paperweights once the sun went down... not a fun night. The consensus so far is Baja for top-shelf or Diode for value. Both are great tho because they offer TRX-specific brackets. If you want another solid option, Morimoto 4Banger LED Pods are killer for the fog pockets and very easy to install. I'd also look at KC HiLiTES Gravity LED G34 pods; they are absolute tanks and have a great beam pattern. Quick tip: Use your factory auxiliary switches! It makes the wiring way easier and you wont have to cut into your dash or firewall. TL;DR: Get Amber for Sedona dust and White for max distance. Stick to bolt-on kits so you dont have to be a mechanic to get them working.

Congrats on the TRX! It is an absolute beast. Tbh, forget the cheap Amazon stuff, the raw lumen output and thermal management are usually trash. Just go with Baja Designs for everything. Their amber stuff is amazing for cutting through dust and the build quality is top tier. Most of their TRX bracket kits are totally bolt on so you wont have to cut anything up!
