What are the best functional accessories for the new Rivian R2 that actually hold up because im honestly so fed up with the flimsy overpriced junk manufacturers try to upsell you on during the preorder phase. I had a nightmare experience with my previous SUV where the custom cargo organizers literally fell apart after two months of hauling my gear around Seattle and I really dont want a repeat of that with the R2. I just put my deposit down and the wait is already killing me but I need to figure out a real plan for the interior and the storage areas since I spend every weekend up in the mountains hiking or biking.

Is anyone looking at third-party stuff yet or is it too early? Im specifically looking for heavy-duty floor mats that wont slide around and maybe some kind of divider system for the trunk area because I hate it when my muddy boots roll around and get everything else filthy. I have about $1500 set aside just for quality of life upgrades and I refuse to give that money to the dealership if the quality is gonna be as mediocre as what I saw in the demo units. The R2 looks great but the lack of built-in small item storage is kind of driving me crazy already just looking at the specs.

I also really need to find a solid roof rack solution that doesnt whistle like a tea kettle at 60mph on the highway. My old setup was so loud I could barely hear the radio and I am hoping someone has found a low-profile alternative that fits the Rivian mount points without being a total eyesore. If anyone has experience with brands that are already prototyping R2 gear or if there are R1 accessories that are confirmed to be cross-compatible let me know because I am ready to just build my own at this point if I cant find something decent...

Looking at the mounting geometry, you can save money without sacrificing safety. For the interior and gear:

Unfortunately, official gear isnt as good as expected tbh. Check RivianForums.

Honestly I'm pretty satisfied with how the third-party specs are looking. For the floor, I'm definitely eyeing WeatherTech FloorLiner HP Custom Fit Mats since the laser-measured fit means they wont budge. For that roof whistle, I've had zero complaints with Yakima JetStream Aero Bar Crossbars regarding drag and noise. They're way more aerodynamic than factory bars and should have R2-specific towers ready by delivery.

> Im specifically looking for heavy-duty floor mats that wont slide around Ngl if you want total coverage, you gotta look at TuxMat. I have run them in my current rig and the way they edge-to-edge seal is incredible. I am already refreshing their site waiting for the TuxMat Custom Fit All-Weather Floor Mats for the R2. They use a proprietary three-layer construction that actually dampens road noise too! Its like adding extra sound deadening to your floorboards while keeping the mud off. Since you are worried about the storage situation, check out STEP 22 Gear Stingray Flat Box. These are technically overlanding gear but they are modular and basically indestructible. You can label them and they wont slide around like those cheap plastic bins from big box stores. For the roof, definitely peek at the technical specs on the Kuat Trio Roof Bike Rack or their crossbar tech when it launches. They use high-grade aluminum and specialized aero-profiles to kill that whistling sound. If you want to geek out on the mounting data, Rivian Stories is a fantastic resource where people are already teardown-mapping the R2 prototype dimensions!

TL;DR: Get the Front Runner Slimline II Roof Rack Kit. Like someone mentioned, dealership gear is mediocre. Its all-aluminum construction wont whistle and offers a 660lb static load rating.

Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.
