Hey everyone! I finally took delivery of my R1T Quad-Motor and I am absolutely loving the performance so far. However, I am really struggling to decide on a bed cover. Since the factory powered tonneau has been such a hot topic, I am leaning toward looking at reliable aftermarket options.
I mainly need something that offers solid weatherproofing for my camping gear and decent security when I am parked in the city. I have been looking at some retractable options, but I am worried about whether they interfere with the gear tunnel buttons or the bed lights. Does anyone have specific recommendations for a cover that fits perfectly and keeps the dust out on trails?
Seconding the recommendation above. In 10 years, i only trust DiamondBack HD Truck Bed Cover over Bak Industries Revolver X4s Hard Rolling Tonneau Cover.
Lesson: dont risk ur gear!
In my experience, you should check out the RetraxPRO XR Retractable Tonneau Cover. Over the years I have tried many, and this one doesnt block the gear tunnel buttons or lights at all. The reinforced aluminum slats are basically theft-proof in the city. Tbh, the dust seals work great on trails, keeping my gear bone dry. It seems like a perfect fit? Ngl its a solid choice. gl!
Stumbled onto this thread this morning and had to jump in. @Reply #4 - good point! Honestly, saving these threads is the only way to keep track of all the gear we end up buying for these trucks lol. I totally agree that security is huge, but unfortunately, I had some real issues with the fitment on some of the big-name retractable brands. They just didnt feel as premium as the R1T deserves, and the weather stripping was not as good as expected for the price. Kinda sucks when you spend that much and still see dust on your gear after a trail run... If you want something that actually looks like it belongs on the truck and wont leak like a sieve, I finally switched over to the EV Sportline Team 1EV Rivian R1T RMax Manual Tonneau Cover. Its a bit of a workout compared to the factory powered one since its manual, but the panels are super solid and fit the bed grooves perfectly. I also tried the Lomax Professional Series Hard Tri-Fold Cover for a bit. It is super light, but the finish was a total letdown and scratched way easier than I hoped. Ngl, it was a bummer but it still beats having an open bed!
Saving this whole thread. So much good info here you guys are awesome.
Been thinking about your question since I saw it earlier. Basically, bed covers are a must for range and keeping your camping gear safe from sticky fingers. Why it matters is that the factory options are SO expensive, and many high-end retractable ones still cost a fortune. I went through this last year. I honestly couldnt justify spending $2,000+ after already dropping six figures on the Quad-Motor. I looked for a balance between price and seal quality and found that manual folding covers are way more budget-friendly. They dont block the bed lights or the gear tunnel buttons at all, which was a huge relief.
