totally fed up with how the stock tires handled the rocks last weekend, it was so sketchy and im dying to get some proper gear on this R1S. got about 5k set aside for a build before our Utah trip.
what gear is actually worth it...
Quick tip while I have a sec... I've been super satisfied with the Weistec Engineering Rivian R1S Rock Sliders Frame Mounted because the weld quality and mounting points are superior for the price. They're heavy. Also, the Factor 55 HitchLink 2.0 Receiver Shackle Mount works well for a rear recovery point. It's a solid, cost-effective upgrade that handles 9,500 lbs without even breaking a sweat.
Im totally happy with the EV Sportline RMaxx Rock Sliders Steel for protection. Also, the ARB CKMP12 Portable Air Compressor 12V works well for airing up reliably after rocky trails.
@Reply #1 - good point! Honestly tho, I been pretty happy with how the R1S handles the rough stuff as long as you dont rush it. Safety is the big one for me. Before you drop 5k, are you planning on doing any self-recovery with a winch or are you just looking for points to get a tug from a buddy? That changes the mounting requirements quite a bit. I usually tell people to head over to the Rivian Stories forums and check their technical threads on mounting points. Its a solid resource for seeing what actually holds up under stress. Also, have you looked into trail mapping apps to check the actual difficulty ratings? Some of those Utah spots are way more aggressive than they look on paper and the last thing you want is a cracked battery casing cuz you underestimated a ledge... Better to be safe than stranded out there.
Can confirm this works. Did the same thing on mine and its been solid ever since.
