Hey everyone! I’ve been absolutely loving my R1T, but now that the summer heat is starting to kick in, I’m realizing just how massive that front windshield really is. I park my truck outside during the workday with zero shade, and lately, the cabin feels like a literal oven when I hop in at 5 PM. I’m worried about the long-term effects of that intense UV exposure on the dashboard materials and that beautiful vegan leather interior.

I’ve tried a couple of those generic, 'one-size-fits-all' sunshades from the local big-box stores, but they are a total disaster. Because of the unique dimensions of the R1T and the placement of the rearview mirror housing, the generic ones either sag in the middle or leave huge gaps on the sides, which kind of defeats the purpose. I’m really looking for something that offers a precise, edge-to-edge fit to keep the temps down as much as possible.

I’m curious if anyone here has tried the official Rivian branded sunshade versus some of the popular aftermarket options like HeatShield or WeatherTech? I’ve also heard some buzz about those foldable umbrella-style shades, but I’m skeptical about whether they can actually cover the surface area of our trucks without scratching anything.

Ideally, I’d love something that is easy to fold up and stow away in the frunk or behind the seats when I have passengers, as I don't want a massive roll of reflective material taking up all my floor space.

Has anyone found a specific brand that fits perfectly around the sensor cluster and actually stays in place without falling down? Would love to hear what you guys are using and if you think the premium price tags on the custom-fit versions are actually worth it!

Similar situation here—I park in an open lot for 9 hours a day, and that Rivian greenhouse is no joke! I actually went through this last year and ended up trying the Covercraft Custom UVS100 Sunscreen for Rivian R1T. It was about $100, which felt steep compared to big-box options, but it’s thick and doesn't sag. Honestly, the temperature difference is night and day. It really helps protect that vegan leather without the hassle of a roll-up shade taking up space! ☀️

Honestly, I totally get the frustration with that oven-like cabin. For your situation, I've had a bit of a mixed experience trying to find the perfect fit. I actually started with the Rivian R1T Front Windshield Sunshade from the official gear shop. While the fit is obviously perfect around that massive sensor cluster, it’s a bit of a pain to roll up and stow when you’re in a rush.

I also tried one of those popular foldable ones, specifically the Covercraft UVS100 Custom Sunscreen for Rivian R1T, and unfortunately, it felt a bit clunky to handle inside the truck. But, if you want something that actually stays in place and blocks every bit of light, I'd suggest looking at the WeatherTech CustomFit SunShade for Rivian R1T. It's a bit stiff, but the silver side really reflects the heat well. Just a heads up—none of these really "fold small," so you'll definitely be dedicating some frunk space to it!

In my experience, you definitely want to skip the generic stuff and go custom-fit for that massive R1T windshield. I've been using the HeatShield Custom Windshield Sunshade for Rivian R1T and honestly, it's a total game-changer for the summer heat.

Here’s the breakdown of what actually works:

- **HeatShield Custom Windshield Sunshade for Rivian R1T**: This is my daily driver. It’s about $50-$60, fits perfectly around the sensor cluster, and stays up without even using the sun visors most of the time. It’s a roll-up style, which is bulky, but the heat rejection is top-tier.
- **WeatherTech CustomFit SunShade for Rivian R1T**: Very similar to the HeatShield, but usually a bit pricier. The fit is tight, which is what you need for that "oven" feeling.
- **Rivian R1T Glass Roof Sunshade**: If your cabin is still hot, it’s likely coming through the roof too!

I’d avoid the umbrella styles; they just don't cover the corners of our trucks well enough. Hope this helps! ☀️
