Just took delivery of my Quad-Motor R1T and I'm heading to the trails soon! I’m looking for essentials like recovery boards that fit the gear tunnel and maybe some heavy-duty mud mats. Are there specific rock sliders or underbody shields you guys recommend for rocky terrain? What are your must-have off-road accessories for this truck?

Saw this earlier but just now responding! Check out the Rivian Stories site, its a great resource for specific PSI settings. tbh since the R1T is heavy, you gotta watch tire pressures for safety. For a budget kit, I recommend the AstroAI Digital Tire Pressure Gauge 150 PSI ($12) and the ALL-TOP Heavy Duty Air Compressor 180L/Min 6.36CFM ($145). its basically a lifesaver on technical trails. Safety first!! gl!

In my experience, you don't need to spend a fortune right away to have a blast on the trails. Here is a quick comparison of what i've tried on my own truck:

* **Recovery Boards:** MAXTRAX MKII Recovery Boards ($330) vs X-BULL Generation 2.0 Recovery Traction Boards ($65). The MaxTrax are legendary but honestly, the X-Bulls fit the gear tunnel perfectly and save you over $250. Best choice: X-Bulls are a decent option for occasional use.
* **Mud Mats:** Rivian R1T All-Weather Floor Mats ($250) vs 3D MAXpider KAGU All-Weather Floor Mats for Rivian R1T ($170). The 3D ones have a better lip to catch dirt and mud. Best choice: 3D MAXpider depends on your needs, but they’re better value.
* **Armor:** If you didnt get the factory Rivian Reinforced Underbody Shield, you definitely want EV Sportline TMaxx Rock Sliders. They’re pricey but save ur battery from expensive damage.

So yeah, i'd say go with the budget boards and mats first. You'll lowkey appreciate the savings later. gl!

Just sharing my experience: dude, i went through this exact same rabbit hole last year when i first got my quad-motor! Honestly, i was sooo tempted to just click 'buy' on every single premium accessory out there, but i decided to take it slow and see what actually mattered on the trails.

I basically compared three different ways to gear up. First was the 'go big or go home' route with all the official factory protection. It looks clean, but the cost is wild! I mean, I love the truck, but my wallet needed a break lol. Then there was the 'budget hunter' path using random stuff. I tried some cheap generic mats, and honestly, they just didnt fit right and slid around.

Eventually, I landed on a middle-ground approach with some specialized aftermarket guys. I found that the setup i got—this set of heavy-duty rock sliders from a smaller shop—ended up being way more solid than the thinner ones i saw elsewhere. Plus, they were realy a better value than the 'luxury' brands. For the underbody, i went with a custom kit that covers the mid-section cuz the stock protection felt a bit thin for the jagged rocks i usually hit.

The biggest lesson i learned? Spend the money on the things that actually touch the rocks. I saved cash on my recovery boards by going with a mid-tier brand instead of the big names, and they've worked great twice now without cracking. Defiantly worth taking your time to compare! peace 👍

Spot on about the air management kit, honestly a lifesaver. But before you go paying a 'professional' shop hundreds to install fancy racks, most of this stuff is totally doable in ur own driveway with basic tools. The R1T is surprisingly DIY-friendly for mounting gear if you have a Saturday morning free!!! A few self-service tips for the trail:
* **Bed Storage:** Look into the BuiltRight Industries Rivian R1T Bed Device Mounts. It’s a simple bolt-on project that lets you secure everything from shovels to traction boards right to the bedside. * **Recovery Points:** Dont forget some solid shackles. I use Rhino USA D-Ring Shackles on the factory tow hooks. They’re beefy as hell and you dont need a mechanic to loop 'em on. Tbh doing the work urself means you actually know how to fix things when they rattle loose on a washboard road. Why pay someone else for the easy stuff??

i've been obsessing over the exact same thing since i got mine. Last week i actually spent a few hours under the truck with a digital caliper measuring the clearance around the suspension arms... i'm terrified of messing up the geometry or adding too much unsprung weight. These quad-motors have so much torque that if you catch a rock wrong with a DIY mod, things'll go south fast. ngl i'm still hesitant to commit to any specific mounting solution until i can verify the load ratings myself. Before i make any moves, i've been wondering:

  • What's the specific breakover angle you're aiming for with your setup?
  • Are you looking for permanent bolt-on protection or something modular you can take off for daily driving?

Works great for me

Curious about one thing: what's your typical terrain gonna be like?? Since the R1T is heavy, you gotta be careful because technical specs reallyyy matter.

I would suggest looking at these kinetic ropes:
- Yankum Ropes 7/8" x 30' Kinetic Recovery Rope: Pros: insane shock absorption; Cons: pretty bulky.
- Bubba Power Stretch Recovery Rope 7/8" x 30': Pros: super durable polymer coating; Cons: definately pricey...

Make sure to check the specs! Which fits ur plans??
