Which bike rack works best with Rivian R1T?

I just took delivery of my R1T and I'm struggling to decide on the best bike rack setup. Since the gear tunnel is great for smaller items, I need something reliable for two heavy e-MTBs. I’m torn between a tailgate pad and a hitch-mounted tray rack. I'm a bit concerned about whether a hitch rack will interfere with the gear tunnel door opening or if the backup cameras/sensors will go crazy. Does anyone have experience with the 1Up or Kuat racks on their Rivian? I'm looking for something sturdy that doesn't wobble on fire roads. What specific rack are you using, and how does it handle the truck's unique dimensions and tech?

Hi there, and congrats on the R1T! Honestly, I'm still learning the ropes with mine, but I've been doing a ton of research because those e-MTBs are heavy! One thing to keep in mind is the tongue weight and how the sensors react to anything in the hitch. Most racks will definitely set off the backup beepers unless you toggle 'Trailer Mode,' but that can disable some driver-assist features.

For your situation, I would suggest looking at the Kuat Piston Pro X 2-Bike Rack. It's pricey, but it has integrated LED tail lights that sync with the truck, which helps with visibility and sometimes keeps the tech a bit happier. Also, check out the RockyMounts GuideRail 2-Bike Rack—it's super sturdy for fire roads and has a similar dual-arm design that won't touch your frame. Both should clear the gear tunnel door if you tilt them down, though it’s always a tight squeeze! FWIW, the tailgate pad is cheaper, but lifting 50lb+ e-bikes that high gets old fast. Hope this helps!

Seconding the recommendation above! The swing-away idea is smart, but since you're worried about safety and fire roads, I'd suggest the Thule T2 Pro XTR 2-Bike Hitch Rack. It has integrated wheels so you don't break your back moving it, and the locking cable is a nice security touch. Honestly, just be careful with the sensors; they might beep, but it's manageable. Hope this helps!

Hi there, and congrats on the new R1T! Honestly, I've been in your shoes, and since you're hauling heavy e-MTBs, I would suggest being extra cautious with your choice. For your situation, I've found that the 1Up USA Heavy Duty Double Bike Rack is the gold standard for stability on fire roads. It’s built like a tank and doesn't wobble at all.

That said, you definitely need to be careful with the gear tunnel doors. Most hitch racks will block them when folded up, so I highly recommend adding the 1Up USA Rack Add-On or a swing-away adapter to clear the doors. Regarding the tech, the sensors will likely beep when you're in reverse, but it's a small price to pay for the security of a tray rack over a tailgate pad, which can sometimes scuff the paint if dust gets underneath. Just make sure to double-check your hitch pin torque! Hope this helps!

Seconding the recommendation above! Those e-MTBs are heavy, so I totally get the stress. I've been using the RockyMounts BackStage Swing Away Hitch Rack which retails around $760. Honestly, the "swing away" feature is a total game changer for the R1T because it lets you swing the bikes out of the way to fully open the tailgate and gear tunnel without removing anything. FWIW, it handles fire roads with zero wobble. Hope this helps!
