I’m beyond hyped for the R3X launch, but I'm already trying to figure out the gear setup. Since it has those unique proportions and a slightly different roofline than the R1S, I’m curious if the standard Rivian crossbars will be the go-to or if we should look at Yakima or Thule for a lower profile look. I definitely need something sturdy enough for a hardshell rooftop tent, but I don't want to sacrifice too much range with a bulky setup. Does anyone know if the mounting points are identical to the R1 series, or will the R3X require a specific kit? Which roof racks do you think will actually complement the R3X’s rugged aesthetic best?

Quick question—are you planning on leaving that hardshell tent on year-round or just for trips? Honestly, the R3X has such a specific profile that the weight of something like a iKamper Skycamp 3.0 vs a lighter Roofnest Sparrow 2 might totally change which feet/towers I'd recommend for those mounting points.

Seconding the recommendation above regarding the Yakima setup. NGL, safety is the BIGGEST factor when you're mounting a heavy hardshell tent, so you gotta check the dynamic vs static weight ratings for the Yakima JetStream Bar and Yakima TimberLine Towers. I'd actually compare those against the Thule WingBar Evo or a heavy-duty Front Runner Slimline II Roof Rack Kit for the best security!

yo, honestly if you're looking for a budget-friendly setup that won't break the bank, I'd skip the pricey dealer stuff. i think the Yakima JetStream Bar paired with Yakima TimberLine Towers is basically the sweet spot for value right now. It's way cheaper than a full Thule rig but still SUPER sturdy for a tent. Plus, you gotta be careful with the R3X's tapered roofline—getting the right fit is crucial for safety, right? gl!

Honestly, after years of swapping gear on R1S builds, I suspect the Rivian Cargo Crossbars will still be the standard. But unfortunately, based on early specs, the R3X roofline is way more tapered. I've had issues with range loss on bulky setups, so I'd look at the Thule WingBar Edge for a lower profile. Just a heads up, the R3X mounting points might actually be closer together than the R1 series, right?
