sorry if this is basic but i have no idea what people actually buy to change the outside look. i have about $1000 set aside. any ideas?

> i was thinking maybe extra lights or different wheels? I have spent way too much time testing gear on the R1 series, and unfortunately, many budget-friendly lighting options have been a huge letdown. You mentioned lights, but most generic pods suffer from terrible moisture sealing and poor beam patterns. Comparing two common setups for that tough look:

If you want that tough look without wasting money on stuff that breaks, focus on tires first. Honestly, tires are the single biggest change you can make for both aesthetics and actual performance while you wait for that spring delivery. With a $1000 budget, you could grab a set of Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail 235/60R18 and still have some cash left. They look way more aggressive than factory rubber but they are specifically engineered for crossovers so they wont kill your range or make a ton of noise. Its a reliable middle ground for someone who wants the vibe but still needs to commute. Another decent option is a solid roof setup. If you can find a deal, something like the Yakima OffGrid Cargo Basket Medium is great because it looks rugged but it is built well enough that you wont have to worry about it rattling loose on the highway. I am always a bit cautious about adding weight up high because it affects handling and safety in turns, but if you keep it for lighter gear, it works well. Just dont go for the no-name brands on Amazon tho... those cheap ones tend to rust out and leave streaks on your paint within a year. Stick to the stuff with a solid reputation so you arent buying it twice.

Ngl i have the exact same problem and it is super frustrating. I have been digging into the technical specs for potential mods for my R3X and honestly everything is so disappointing. I was looking at the Thule Caprock Roof Platform S to get that overlander vibe but the dynamic load ratings are just not as good as expected for a high-performance EV. Unfortunately, these racks use lower-grade aluminum that tends to fatigue under constant vibration. I am also worried about the sensor interference; these cars have so many cameras and if you mount something slightly off, the software throws a fit. It is kind of a nightmare trying to find gear that is actually safe and reliable. I have the same budget set aside but im scared to buy anything because the quality control on aftermarket parts is just garbage lately.

To add to the point above: honestly its a scam how prices rise while quality drops. Unfortunately, gear is just not as good as expected.

  • cheap builds
  • safety issues Drives me crazy.
