Finally got my Rivian Commercial Van for my mobile bike shop in Denver but now I'm stuck on the interior. I've been looking at Ranger Design because it's lightweight but its pretty pricey compared to Adrian Steel. Adrian Steel seems rugged but I'm worried about the weight affecting my range since its all steel and I've got heavy e-bikes to haul.
I'm leaning toward Ranger for the weight savings but is it worth the extra cash over Adrian Steel? I dont want to kill my battery range before I even get to the job site...
> Adrian Steel seems rugged but I'm worried about the weight affecting my range You're totally right to worry about weight! Heavy steel kills the EV battery life, trust me. But if you want ruggedness without the massive weight penalty, you gotta look at the Weather Guard 9354-3-01 Aluminum Shelf Unit. I love these things because they use heavy-duty aluminum that actually holds up to tools rattling around without bending. Another amazing option is the Adrian Steel ADseries Aluminum Shelving which is specifically designed to be lighter for electric vans like yours. It gives you that Adrian Steel reliability but wont tank your range! Safety is key when hauling heavy e-bikes so make sure you use proper mounting kits. Honestly, dont skip on the floor plates either. Its a fantastic setup for a mobile shop!
Building on the earlier suggestion, I stumbled upon this and wanted to warn you about the weight distribution. Since you're doing a mobile bike shop in a Rivian, you gotta be careful because those e-bikes are basically lead bricks on wheels. I would suggest checking out Masterack Smart-Space Aluminum Shelving 3-Shelf Unit if you want to save some of that $3,500 for actual tools. It's usually more budget-friendly than Ranger but way lighter than the Adrian Steel stuff. A few things to consider:
I'm very satisfied with Ranger Design Aluminum Shelving. It works well for keeping watt-hours low.
Ok adding this to my list of things to try. Thanks for the tip!
I totally agree with vmmxpqeytd that those e-bikes are basically lead bricks and they really mess with how the van handles. Weight distribution is such a headache. Unfortunately, I've found that some of these big brand names aren't as good as expected lately and the quality just feels lower than it used to be, which is a bummer when you're spending that kind of cash. This actually reminds me of when my buddy tried to out-spec everyone with his mobile detailing setup... he spent months researching brands and spent a fortune on this custom aluminum rig. Then, first week on the job, he realizes the mounting points didnt even line up with his floor bolts and he had to drill into his brand new chassis. It turned into this huge ordeal where he was arguing with the manufacturer for weeks while his tools were just sliding around in the back. Basically a total disaster and he ended up so stressed he almost quit the business before he even started. Just a mess tbh...
