I just put down my deposit for the R3X and I am honestly so lost right now. Ive never owned an EV before let alone tried to mod one but I really want this thing to be a beast when it finally arrives. Im moving to the Denver area later this year and Im planning this massive camping trip through the Rockies like literally the week after Im supposed to get the car so I need it ready to go and feeling powerful.
My budget is pretty tight though like maybe 2500 dollars max after what I spent on the reservation. I dont even know if you can actually upgrade electric cars like you can with normal gas cars?? Like can you actually make it faster or does that mess up the battery or something? I keep seeing people talk about tires and suspension but honestly I have no clue what brands are even good or if I should wait for some official stuff from Rivian.
Sorry if this is a totally basic question I just dont want to break my new car or buy something that doesnt actually do anything. I'm worried if I change stuff it will die on the trail or something or the warranty will get voided. What are the top recommended performance upgrades for the R3X?
In my experience, everyone wants more speed, but the R3X is already gonna be a rocket. You cant really tune the power output without risking a bricked ECU or a voided warranty, so performance for an EV owner usually means managing ground clearance and heat. If youre hitting the Rockies, you need to worry about the battery pack casing more than anything else.
Prioritize traction since software tunes void warranties. For $2500, this setup is the best performance boost:
Saving this whole thread. So much good info here you guys are awesome.
Been thinking about your budget and honestly, making an EV faster is a whole different ballgame compared to gas cars. Since you cant really swap a turbo or tune the motor without bricking the software, performance in your case should mean capability and trail utility. If youre headed to Denver, you definitely need to worry about the variable conditions in the Rockies. Heres a technical breakdown of what actually helps:
