Just picked up our new Ascent and honestly Im a bit overwhelmed with how to fit everything for our trip to Maine next month. We have three kids and a big goldendoodle so space is already tight. I was looking at those Thule Motion boxes but Im legit terrified it wont clear my garage door and I dont want to be that person who rips their roof off on day one. Then I saw the Subaru official seatback protectors online but some reviews say they gap weirdly when the third row is up and others say theyre great? I just need to know what actually works for a family that packs way too much stuff. What are the absolute must have organizers or roof setups that dont cost a literal fortune or ruin the car...

Do you have a hitch? Make sure to compare the Yakima SkyBox Lo Roof Box for clearance vs the Curt 18153 Basket Style Hitch Carrier... it avoids garage risks but complicates rear access.

Re: "Do you have a hitch? Make sure to..." - honestly, skip the hitch rack! It is a total nightmare letting a goldendoodle out for bathroom breaks with a basket blocking the hatch. I love the Yakima OffGrid Medium Cargo Basket instead. It is fantastic because:
- It sits lower than a box for garage clearance
- You can strap bulky gear to it easily
- It wont cost a fortune like hard shells! Trust me, it is way more practical.

Oh man, congrats on the Ascent! We had the same panic before our first trip with the labs. I obsessed over garage clearance but honestly just went for the Thule Motion XT L 16cu ft Roof Box and we dont even hit the door. It looks amazing! Also, definitely grab the Subaru OEM J501SXC111 Seatback Protector 3rd Row. They saved our upholstery from muddy paws... total game changers!
