So I just picked up my new Outback yesterday and I'm already lowkey panicking because we have this huge trip planned for the Adirondacks this weekend and the weather forecast looks like total garbage. Rain and mud everywhere and I dont want to ruin the carpets in the first week of owning it.
I'm looking at floor liners and seat covers but I'm torn between WeatherTech and TuxMat. WeatherTech is the classic choice and I know they last forever but I've heard they're kinda stiff and leave gaps sometimes? Then there's TuxMat which looks way nicer and covers more of the carpet but I'm worried they'll be a pain to clean when they're actually caked in mud.
My logic was that TuxMat covers more side area so the dog hair won't get stuck in the floor fibers as much... but then there's the OEM Subaru heavy duty ones which are cheaper but they dont seem to cover as much ground. Budget is like 300 bucks max for everything and I need to order them basically right now to get them by Friday.
Also what about the back seat?? My golden retriever is basically a walking mud ball. Should I just get a cheap hammock off Amazon or is the Subaru branded seat cover worth the extra cash for the fit? I'm leaning toward TuxMat for the floors but I dont know if they'll ship fast enough... what do you guys think for a muddy dog situation?
Late to the party, but my experience with the expensive brands has been pretty disappointing lately. I had major fitment issues with the premium options that cost double your budget.
TuxMat All-Weather Car Mats cover way more carpet than WeatherTech FloorLiner HP for pet hair. TuxMats clean up easily, and the Subaru OEM Pet-Friendly Padded Seat Protector fits way better than hammocks.
Just saw this thread and I am so excited for your trip! The Adirondacks are fantastic even in the rain. Before you rush the order tho, which trim level did you actually buy? I ask because the floor clips changed slightly on some of the newer models and safety is huge when you are dealing with mud and pedals! I have always done a bit of a DIY setup for my dogs because those goldens are basically sponges for dirt.
> I need to order them basically right now Be careful with those shipping windows. Are you looking for something permanent or just a temporary cover? I once ordered mats that arrived late and didnt even fit the floor bolts.
tl;dr: check the shore hardness and material density for long-term durability against warping. i spent way too much time looking at the chemical specs of different polymers when i first got my car. its honestly kinda fascinating how tpe holds up compared to standard rubber over five plus years of heat cycles. speaking of the adirondacks tho, you gotta stop in keene valley if you have the time. i remember this one trip where we got stuck behind a tractor for miles but it led us to this tiny hole-in-the-wall diner. they had these insane sourdough pancakes and the owner had this old map of the high peaks from the 70s pinned to the wall. we spent like two hours just talking about the old trail systems before the erosion got bad. i think about those pancakes every time someone mentions upstate ny... anyway lol sorry kinda went off topic there.
i saw your post and it reminded me so much of my first trip out. i was terrified of ruining the new car smell lol. i actually went with SMARTLINER All-Weather Custom Fit Floor Mats and i have zero complaints. they fit perfectly and dont move an inch which was really important to me for safety reasons. they handled a whole weekend of muddy boots without a single drop hitting the actual carpet. for my dog, i bought the Active Pets Dog Car Seat Cover for Back Seat on a whim and its been a lifesaver. it has these little anchors that keep it from sliding around, so i dont have to worry about my pup slipping when i hit the brakes. plus it was way under budget compared to the dealership stuff. definitely keeps the mud contained and honestly its just nice not having to panic every time the dog gets back in the car.
No way, I literally just dealt with this yesterday. Small world.
