So I finally pulled the trigger on a 2024 Ascent Onyx and we are literally picking it up this Thursday so i am kind of in a panic mode right now trying to get everything ordered before the kids and our golden retriever absolutely wreck the interior. We live in the PNW so it is basically mud season 24/7 here and the carpet is gonna be toast in like a week if I dont find something solid to cover it up with immediately.

I have been looking at the WeatherTech FloorLiners because everyone swears by them but they are so pricey and I heard they can be kinda stiff and slide around after a while? Then there is the Husky Liners WeatherBeater set which looks a bit more flexible and apparently has those little spikes on the bottom to keep them in place but I am not sure if the fit is as tight around the captain's chairs in the second row as the official Subaru ones would be. The OEM Subaru all-weather mats seem okay but they dont seem to have the high walls that the aftermarket ones have to catch all the slush and spilled juice boxes.

Also really stuck on the cargo area and the back of the third row seats because the dog is gonna be back there constantly. Do I go with the Subaru OEM folding seat back protectors or spend the extra cash on the Canvasback liners? The Canvasback covers more of the side walls which would be a lifesaver for the dog hair but it is almost double the price and my total budget for everything is like 500 bucks max and I still need to find a decent seat cover for the middle row that doesnt look like a trash bag.

If you had to choose between the full WeatherTech setup or going with the Husky ones and using the savings to get the Canvasback cargo liner which way would you go? Or are the OEM ones actually good enough for heavy mud and dog hair and I am just overthinking this whole thing? Need to order tonight so they get here by the weekend...

Congrats on the new Onyx! Picking up a new car is such a rush, but i totally get the PNW mud panic. I have been through three Subarus with two labs and two kids, so i have tried it all. My direct recommendation is to skip the full WeatherTech kit and grab the Husky Liners WeatherBeater Floor Mats for the front and second rows. They are amazing because they use those little spikes to stay put, whereas the WeatherTechs tend to slide and warp over time in my experience. The Husky fit is super tight around the captain's chairs too! Since you are worried about the golden retriever, you absolutely have to go with the Canvasback Custom Cargo Liner. It is a total game changer compared to the OEM seat back protectors. The Subaru ones leave huge gaps where hair and mud just get ground into the carpet forever. The Canvasback is basically waterproof and hair just wipes right off. It is worth every extra penny if you want to keep that new car smell for more than a week. For the middle row, i love the Meadowlark XL Dog Seat Cover with Mesh Window because it is heavy duty but doesnt look like a garbage bag. It fits the Ascent dimensions perfectly and should keep your budget right around that 500 mark! Enjoy the new ride!

To add to the point above: I would suggest looking at 3D MAXpider Kagu Floor Mats for Subaru Ascent if you want something that isnt quite as industrial-looking as the Husky ones. Be careful with the OEM mats tho, the coverage behind the gas pedal is honestly kinda trash. Make sure to get the Subaru OEM Rear Seatback Protector for that third row dog area... it handles claws much better than bare carpet ever will.
