What are the best performance accessories for a Subaru WRX?

Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger on a Subaru WRX a few months ago, and now that I’ve officially finished the break-in period and gotten used to the stock power delivery, I’m really getting that itch to start modding. I absolutely love the AWD grip and that turbo kick, but I feel like there is so much more potential locked away in this car that I haven't tapped into yet.

I’ve spent hours scrolling through various threads and watching YouTube clips, but the sheer volume of options is honestly a bit overwhelming. Since this is my daily driver, I’m not looking to turn it into a dedicated track monster just yet—I need to keep it reliable and somewhat comfortable for my morning commute. However, I definitely want to sharpen the experience.

I’m specifically looking at a few different areas. First, I’ve noticed the stock shifter feels a bit 'rubbery,' so I was considering a short-throw shifter or some shifter bushings to crisp things up. Second, I’m torn between starting with power mods like a cold air intake and a mild tune, or focusing on handling with some beefier sway bars to reduce that slight body roll in the corners. I’ve also seen a lot of people mentioning that an Air Oil Separator (AOS) is a 'must-have' for engine longevity on these boxers, even if it doesn't add horsepower directly.

My budget for this first round of upgrades is around $1,500 to $2,000. I want to make sure I’m buying quality parts that actually improve the driving feel rather than just making it louder or harsher for no reason.

For those of you who have been through a few WRX builds, what would you say are the absolute best 'bang-for-your-buck' performance accessories to start with, and are there any specific brands you think offer the best balance of quality and performance for a daily driver?

Honestly, grab the Cobb Accessport V3 and an IAG Performance V3 Street Series Air Oil Separator first. Also, the Perrin Shifter Stop SO fixes that rubbery feel. Gl!

I was in your exact spot a few years back when I first got my VA. Ngl the stock suspension setup is decent but that body roll was killing me on the highway ramps. I ended up grabbing the Whiteline 24mm Adjustable Rear Sway Bar and it basically transformed the car. I paired it with some Whiteline Rear Sway Bar Support Braces to keep the subframe from flexing too much under load. Best few hundred bucks I ever spent because the turn-in became so much more predictable without making the ride harsh for my daily commute. I am super happy with how it holds the line now. For that rubbery shifter, definitely look into the Perrin Brass Shifter Bushing. I swapped mine in the driveway and it totally removed that squishy delay when you are rowing through gears by eliminating the soft rubber compliance in the linkage. If you want to save some cash for a future pro-tune, maybe skip the expensive intake for now and just get a GrimmSpeed DryCon Air Filter. It flows way better than stock and wont mess with your fuel trims like some of the bigger kits do. It has been working well for me for over 30k miles now.

Quick question - what year is your WRX? Ngl, the advice changes depending on the chassis. Also, a word of caution: rushing into an intake without a custom tune is realy risky. I had issues with a generic map before and it was sooo laggy. Unfortunately, I've seen engines lean out cuz those maps are NOT as good as expected. Are you planning on a pro-tune or just off-the-shelf stuff? It really affects reliability long-term.
