so i finally pulled the trigger on a Model Y Long Range about three weeks ago and honestly im already kinda fed up with some of the basic stuff they just... missed? Like dont get me wrong the car is fast and fun to drive around Seattle but some of these interior choices are driving me insane. For one the piano black or whatever that shiny material is on the console is a total nightmare. I have two kids and within ten minutes of them being in the car it looks like a crime scene of sticky fingerprints and dust. It feels so cheap for a car at this price point. Then there is the storage situation which is just a joke. Why are the center bins so deep with no dividers? I feel like im digging for my sunglasses in a bottomless pit every time I stop at a light. Plus the road noise on the highway is way louder than I expected especially when it is raining which is basically every day here. I’ve got a budget of about $1500 to basically fix this car before we head up to Whistler for a ski trip next month and I am desperate to make it feel more livable. I have been looking at those matte screen protectors because the glare is killing me at night and maybe some of those sub-trunk organizers so my gear isnt rattling around the whole drive. Are those weather-proof floor mats actually better than the ones Tesla sells? Because the stock ones are already looking pretty pathetic and holding onto all the mud. I really want to know what you guys have actually bought that stays in place and doesnt look like cheap plastic junk. What are the best aftermarket accessories you’ve found to actually improve a Model Y and fix these annoying little day-to-day issues?

Building on the earlier suggestion, you might want to consider how the freezing temps in Whistler affect some of these plastic parts before you head up there. > I have been looking at those matte screen protectors because the glare is killing me at night I would suggest the Topfit Tesla Model Y Matte Screen Protector over the pricier name brands. It handles the glare fine but honestly, be careful with the install or you'll be staring at dust bubbles for the next three years. For that storage pit, I've used the Spigen Tesla Model Y Center Console Organizer Tray and it's much better than the generic junk, though it's a bit more expensive. For the slush and mud, TuxMat Tesla Model Y All-Weather Floor Mats are way superior to the stock ones because of the high side walls. Compare those to the TAPTES Tesla Model Y Floor Mats which are cheaper but dont offer nearly as much carpet coverage. Just make sure the clips are tight or they can shift around under your feet.

For the mud, these are decent options:

I have had my Y for a couple years now and honestly, the interior finish is still a massive letdown. That piano black is just a magnet for every bit of dust and grease... i ended up just getting a matte cover from Spigen Center Console Cover because the fingerprints were making the car look five years old within a week. It at least makes the cabin feel a bit more premium than that shiny plastic. As for the storage situation, it is basically mandatory to buy aftermarket stuff because the stock setup is useless:

  • Grab some drawer organizers from Basenor Console Trays. Without them, that bin is a total black hole and you will never find your keys.
  • For the back, Tesmanian Sub-Trunk Bins are the way to go so your gear isnt sliding around every time you take a corner. The road noise is just a reality of how these cars are built unfortunately. I tried the rubber door seals from Basenor Seal Kit but they were not as good as expected. They help a tiny bit with the wind noise but wont turn it into a luxury vault or anything. The stock floor mats are trash, plain and simple. I had issues with them folding and letting mud hit the carpet almost immediately. Just get 3D MAXpider All-Weather Mats or Tesmanian Floor Mats. They have the high sidewalls you need for Seattle rain and they actually stay in place. Ngl, the screen glare is a huge safety issue at night. I put a protector on from Spigen Screen Protector and it helps a lot with the reflections. Just make sure to get the one with the install frame... trying to line it up by hand is a nightmare.

^ This. Also, summarizing what we have discussed so far:

  • Console protection for interior durability
  • All-weather liners for environmental safety
  • Screen covers for visual clarity Maintaining vehicle reliability is amazing! I love Whistler but that drive is terrifying when the ice hits. Tbh it reminds me of when I got lost on a backroad and ended up sleeping in my car because the GPS died. It was so stressful. Sorry kinda went off topic there.
