What are you guys actually running for roof racks on the V90 Cross Country these days? I've used Thule setups for years but I just picked up a 2022 V90 CC and the clearance for the panoramic sunroof is driving me crazy. I tried my old WingBars and they seem way too low, like the glass is gonna hit the clamps when it tilts up. I have a road trip to the Rockies in ten days so I need to get this sorted fast. Looked at the OEM ones in Denver but they looked clunky. Is there a specific foot pack that gives enough height for the glass to vent? Budget isnt a problem I just need it to work...

Caught this a bit late but hope you havent bought anything yet. After hauling gear for twenty years, Ive become pretty obsessive about mounting points and safety clearances. If youre worried about that panoramic glass, you definitely want to steer clear of the flush style bars. They look sleek but they are a nightmare for sunroofs. In my experience, the safest route for the V90 CC is the Inno Racks Aero Base Stays for Raised Rails XS150 combined with the Inno Racks XB138 Aero Bar 54 Inch. I have used Inno for years on my Volvos and they tend to sit slightly higher than the Thule Edge or Wingbar setups. The build quality is exceptional, and they use a very secure rubber-coated stainless steel strap that feels rock solid. A few things I always check before a big trip to the Rockies:

  • Torque specs. People ignore them, but over-tightening is just as bad as under-tightening. Use the tool that clicks.
  • The Finger Test. If you cant fit your whole hand between the crossbar and the glass when its tilted, its too close for comfort.
  • Load limits. Remember that the roof capacity includes the weight of the bars themselves. Check out the technical fit guides on eTrailer or RackAttack. They usually list the exact height from the rail to the top of the bar. Its better to be safe and have a slightly taller profile than to crack a three-thousand-dollar piece of glass in the middle of a road trip. Safe travels...

Had that same panic last year. Swapped to the Thule Evo Raised Rail system.

Be careful with the lower mounts. I would suggest Rhino-Rack SX100 Vortex Aero Crossbars because they offer extra vertical clearance.

  • 50mm leg height
  • VGS strip reduces noise Check your T-bolt lengths tho.

Running into that sunroof clearance issue was the first thing I dealt with on my V90 CC. My old setup felt way too close for comfort and was stressing me out because I use the tilt function constantly for fresh air.

  • The setup I have now adds just enough height for the glass to tilt safely.
  • The mounting feet stay totally clear of the roof rails.
  • It was super easy to get everything leveled out. Ive been super happy with how it turned out and have zero complaints. No whistling at high speeds and the pano roof clears the crossbars every single time. It basically saved my summer road trips cuz I dont have to worry about the glass anymore.
