What roof racks are actually the best for a Volvo V60 Cross Country because I am totally lost looking at all these different options online. I just got a 2023 model and honestly I have no idea where to start with this stuff since I have never owned a car with rails before. Sorry if this is a super basic question but do I need a specific brand from the dealership or can I just buy anything from a big box store? I see these rails on top of the car already but then I see people with these extra bars across them and then boxes on top of those and it is just a lot of parts to keep track of.
We are planning a trip up to Vermont next month for a ski weekend and I really need to get my gear out of the backseat because it is way too cramped with the kids back there. My budget is maybe around 400 or 500 dollars but I could go a bit higher if it means the rack won't whistle or fall off on the highway lol. I really dont want anything that makes a ton of wind noise because that would drive me crazy on a long drive. Someone mentioned Thule but then I saw some cheaper ones on Amazon and now I am just confused if the price difference actually matters for a car like this. Is there a specific model that fits the flush rails better than others...
To add to the point above: Ive tried a few setups. The Yakima JetStream Crossbars Black 50 Inch is a great alternative to Thule.
Like someone mentioned, the big brands are great but you can definitely save some coin without the whistle. In my experience, the Rhino-Rack Vortex SX Roof Rack is a killer budget-friendly alternative for flush rails. It is super quiet and honestly just as sturdy as Thule. I have used them for years on several wagons and they never let me down. You can usually find them closer to your 400 dollar target if you shop around online.
Saw this earlier. Unfortunately, i had safety issues with loose mounts previously.
I've tried many setups over the years and skipping the cheap stuff is better for your peace of mind tbh. For your V60, I'd highly recommend Thule WingBar Edge Crossbars because they integrate perfectly with those flush rails. Cheap generic bars often have poor mounting hardware that can slip or scratch your paint. In my experience, the premium cost is worth it for the safety and a silent ride on long highway trips.
