Hi everyone! I recently picked up my new Audi Q4 e-tron, and while I’m absolutely loving the drive, I’m having a bit of a struggle with the built-in wireless charging. The vertical "phone box" design in the center console seems like a clever use of space on paper, but in reality, my iPhone 15 Pro gets incredibly hot after just 20 minutes of driving. To make matters worse, the charging speed is so slow that it barely keeps the battery level steady while I'm running Wireless CarPlay and navigation.
I’ve tried adjusting the position and even removing my phone case, but the heat issue persists. I’m really looking for a more reliable aftermarket solution that won't clutter up the clean, minimalist look of the cabin. I’ve seen a few MagSafe mounts that clip onto the vents, but I’m worried about blocking the airflow or having cables dangling across the dash. Ideally, I'd love something that feels integrated, perhaps utilizing the storage area underneath the floating console.
Has anyone found a specific wireless charger or a high-quality mount that works perfectly in the Q4 cabin without looking like an eyesore? What setups are you all using to keep your phones topped up during longer commutes?
Hi! The Q4 e-tron's built-in charger is a common issue. For your iPhone 15 Pro, a dedicated MagSafe charger with active cooling is often the best aftermarket solution to combat heat and slow speeds. While vent mounts have drawbacks, consider custom-fit dash or console-integrated MagSafe options. Some solutions utilize the storage area under the floating console, offering a clean look. What are your primary charging needs?

So I saw this earlier but just now responding... honestly, if you want to avoid those expensive custom-molded inserts, just grab a cheap ESR Qi2 Magnetic Wireless Charger or the Belkin BoostCharge Magnetic Wireless Charger 15W Pad and toss it on that flat storage area under the console. You can basically tuck the cable away for like $20-$30 total... so much cheaper than Audi's setup and it actually stays cool tho. Works well for me!
This^ Also wanted to add that the heat issue is basically a technical limitation of the Audi pad's low-efficiency coils. If you want a cleaner look than vent clips, i've compared two solid ways to fix this:
* **The MagSafe Hack:** Use a Spigen MagFit Phone Holder and Charger Mount paired with a Apple MagSafe Charger with 1m Cable. It's more efficient, so it actually charges while using CarPlay without the phone melting.
* **The Under-Console Pad:** Some folks just throw a Anker 315 Wireless Charger Pad (7.5W) in that storage area below the shifter. It's cheap (like $15), keeps the phone out of sight, and stays way cooler since it's not in that enclosed vertical slot.
Honestly, the Spigen setup is better for long trips, but the Anker pad is the best value if you just want it hidden lol.
Same here!
