Hey everyone! I’m super excited to finally be getting my Audi Q6 e-tron next month, but I want to make sure I have the right gear ready to go. Since it utilizes that advanced 800V architecture, I’m curious about which Level 2 home chargers play best with it for the most reliable speeds. I’m also on the hunt for a high-quality portable charging cable for road trips, specifically one that handles NEMA 14-50 outlets without overheating. I’ve even been looking at Tesla Tap adapters for more flexibility at hotels, but I'm a bit overwhelmed by the options. What specific charging accessories or cable management tools are you all using to keep your setup efficient?

Yo, congrats on the Q6! Since you want reliability with that 800V setup, I'd honestly go with the Wallbox Pulsar Plus 48 Amp EV Charger for home—it's super compact. For road trips, the J+ Booster 2 Portable EV Charger is basically a tank and handles NEMA 14-50 outlets like a champ without getting too hot. Also, definitely grab the TeslaTap Mini 60 Amp Adapter for those hotel chargers. Basically essential gear. gl!

Totally agree with the above! Honestly, I'm sooo excited for you but also kinda paranoid about heat with that 800V tech, so I'd HIGHLY suggest getting a pro electrician to check ur wiring first. Safety first, right?? For gear, check these: * Emporia Level 2 EV Charger 48 Amp
* Lectron Level 2 Portable EV Charger 40 Amp NEMA 14-50 Basically, make sure it’s all UL-listed. Better safe than sorry tho! 👍

Coming back to this after reading through, there is some solid advice here regarding the Wallbox and Emporia units already. To clear things up from a tech perspective, the 800V architecture in your Audi is amazing for DC fast charging, but for home Level 2 charging, you are still relying on the cars onboard AC converter. Basically, the heat issues people worry about usually happen at the outlet, not the car. If you want something that will last as long as the car, I highly recommend the Enphase IQ EV Charger 48 Amp. It used to be called ClipperCreek and they are legendary for being built like tanks with no fancy screens to break. For a portable road trip cable, check out the DeWalt Portable EV Charger 40 Amp. It is super rugged and has great thermal sensors in the NEMA 14-50 plug to prevent overheating. Also, if you want the absolute best Tesla adapter, the TeslaTap 80 Amp High Power Adapter is overkill but gives you total peace of mind for long-term use at destination chargers. Hardwiring the home unit is always safer than a plug tho!

Honestly, after living with an EV for a couple years, you realize the fancy apps are cool for like a week and then you basically never look at them again. If you want something that just works for the Q6 without all the unnecessary fluff, I would look into these options instead:

  • Autel MaxiCharge AC Lite
  • It is super reliable and has a really solid build quality for the price point, plus the cable is pretty flexible even in the cold.
  • Schumacher Level 2 Portable EV Charger
  • I keep this one in the frunk and it has been a total lifesaver at campsites and older airbnbs.
  • EVPORTE EV Cable Holder
  • For cable management, just getting a simple wall hook and holster is usually better than those expensive retracting reels that always seem to jam up eventually. Regarding the 800V stuff, the car is smart enough to handle the handshake with the charger so dont overthink the technical side too much. Just make sure ur setup has enough breathing room for airflow since high speed charging always generates at least some heat. Tbh the best accessory I ever bought was just a high quality microfiber towel to wipe the cable down when it gets muddy... simple but basically essential for keeping ur interior clean when you coil it back up!

yo i literally just got my Q6 and was SO nervous about the 800V architecture lol!! i was scared of melting my garage or something... * ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 WiFi Enabled EV Charger: amazing speeds but i think it gets kinda hot so be careful!!
* Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger 40 Amp: ngl it’s heavy duty and feels safer, though it lacks fancy apps. basically just check your wiring first cuz safety is HUGE. peace 👍

Seconding the recommendation above! Unfortunately, I’ve had issues overpaying for 800V stuff lately. - What’s ur budget?
- Value or premium? Basically, I just wanna save you some cash lol
