Which roof rack system is best for the Audi Q7 SUV?

I just got a 2023 Audi Q7 and need a solid rack for our family ski trips. I am mostly concerned about wind noise and making sure the panoramic sunroof still functions properly.

Which system offers the best fit for those flush side rails?

Honestly Id go with the Audi Q7 Genuine OEM Roof Rack Base Carrier Bars for peace of mind. They are designed for those rails and usually give more clearance for the sunroof. The Thule WingBar Edge Crossbar System is much quieter and looks better, but it sits lower which can be risky if you tilt the glass. For a family car, safety and clearance should come first imo.

Safety first, tbh. Yakima JetStream 60 Inch Bars feel super sturdy, but Thule WingBar Evo Load Bars give better sunroof clearance so you dont risk cracking the glass.

Ugh, I am literally in the exact same position right now with my 2023 Q7. I have been losing sleep over this because that panoramic sunroof is basically one giant, expensive sheet of glass and the thought of a rack failing or making contact is terrifying. I spent way too much time researching the physics of wind lift and how much stress these flush rails can actually take during a long haul. I was actually looking into the Inno Aero Base Rack System with Flush Feet as a possibility, but I am still worried about the clearance when the sunroof tilts up. If the bars are too low, one accidental button press and you are looking at a multi-thousand dollar repair bill. Its not just about the weight either, but how the wind creates upward pressure at 75mph... basically if those clamps arent perfect, things get sketchy fast. Glad I found this thread cuz I am totally stuck too.

Yep been there done that. Can confirm everything said above is spot on.

Just catching up here... honestly go with Rhino-Rack. Check the fitment videos on etrailer first to save money and make sure the sunroof clears safely.

  • Honestly just find the cheapest ones that fit the rails because they all basically do the same thing.
  • I usually check local listings for used sets since people dump them when they trade in their cars.
  • It beats what happened when I tried to haul a full-size mattress on my old SUV without any bars at all. I thought I could just hold it down with my hand through the sunroof while my brother drove. We got about two miles down the road before the wind caught it and nearly ripped my arm out of the socket. The mattress ended up halfway in a ditch and we had to walk back to get it while everyone was honking at us. My neighbor saw the whole thing and still brings it up at every neighborhood bbq...
  • anyway sorry kinda went off topic there.
