I’m about to take delivery of my new BMW iX next week and I couldn't be more excited! This is my first step into the luxury EV world, and while the car comes pretty well-equipped from the factory, I’m wondering what the 'must-have' extras are that make daily life easier. I’m particularly curious about interior protection and charging. For those of you who have been driving the iX for a while, did you find that all-weather floor mats are essential given the unique floor layout, or are the stock carpet ones holding up well? I’m also looking at screen protectors for that massive curved display because I’m worried about fingerprints and glare. Lastly, since the center console has that open design, are there any specific organizers you’d recommend to keep things from sliding around? I have a budget of around $400 for some initial upgrades. What are the first three things you bought that you now can't live without?

Honestly, I was disappointed with the stock carpet cuz it stains way too easily. In my experience, you definitely gotta swap those out ASAP for the BMW iX All-Weather Floor Mats Front and Rear. I tried some cheap ones and they were just wierdly shaped, so go OEM for safety. Also, that center console is basically a black hole lol. I'd highkey recommend the Muslogy for BMW iX Center Console Organizer Tray to stop your phone from sliding. Lastly, skip the cheap screen protectors; they ruin the clarity. I went with the Spigen Tempered Glass Screen Protector for BMW iX Curved Display and it's been great for fingerprints. GL with the new ride!! 👍

sooo i went through this exact same thing last year when i picked up my ix... honestly that $400 budget is plenty if you're smart about it. basically i realized pretty fast that the glossy interior bits are a nightmare for dust and prints. instead of a full screen protector which i felt messed with the display clarity i just keep a high-quality CleanBeats Microfiber Screen Cleaning Cloth in the door pocket and it works wonders.

for the floor i actually went with the TuxMat Floor Mats for BMW iX because they cover way more of that vertical carpet space than the bmw ones do, especially with that flat floor design. i think they were like $200? and for that center console mess i grabbed a Vesul Center Console Organizer Tray for BMW iX off amazon for like twenty bucks... literally a lifesaver for stopping my sunglasses from sliding into the abyss lol. just sharing my experience tho but protection is definitely the move right?

To add to the point above: it seems the general consensus is that the interior finishes are a bit fragile and the storage layout needs some help. Basically, the suggestions so far focus on protecting the screen, the trim, and the floors. I would suggest being a bit cautious about the long-term reliability of some accessories though:

  • You might want to consider how certain materials hold up under UV exposure over time.
  • Make sure to check that any adhesives wont leave permanent marks on the delicate dash surfaces. I've gotta ask a couple of questions tho to see what fits your needs best. Are you planning to keep the car for the long haul or is it a shorter lease? Also, are you looking for maximum protection against heavy use like kids and pets, or are you just focused on keeping it looking showroom clean?

Quick question - what kind of climate are you living in and do you have kids or pets? Basically, if you're dealing with snow or mud, my advice changes a bit!

TL;DR: Focus on protection and power first.

Honestly, I love the iX but the gloss surfaces are fingerprint magnets. Since someone already mentioned the screen, definitely look into the XPEL Interior Paint Protection Film Kit for BMW iX—it's a lifesaver for the console! Also, the BMW Wallbox Gen 3 is technically over budget, but for a solid home setup under $400, the Lectron V-Box 40 Amp Level 2 EV Charging Station is AMAZING. Lastly, grab a Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit for BMW iX Curved Display to keep that screen crisp!
