Best performance accessories for a BMW M3 Competition?

I recently picked up a G80 BMW M3 Competition, and while the stock performance is absolutely incredible, I’m already starting to wonder where I can take it next. I’ve been daily driving it for a few months now, and I’m looking for that extra bit of 'oomph' and sharper handling without completely compromising the ride quality.

I’ve been looking into a few options like a high-flow intake system for better induction sound and maybe some suspension tweaks. I’m specifically curious about whether a set of lowering springs or a full HAS kit is the way to go for this chassis. Also, has anyone experimented with mid-pipes or lightweight wheels to shed some unsprung weight? I want to keep the car reliable since it's my primary driver, but I’m definitely ready to start modding.

I'm particularly interested in parts that offer the best bang for your buck in terms of throttle response and cornering feel. For those of you who have already started modding your M3 Comp, what are the absolute 'must-have' performance accessories you’d recommend starting with?

yo, so i been thinking about ur g80. honestly, i had some issues with the basic lowering springs at first—they kinda ruined the damping for me. if u want real technical info, check out the forums on Bimmerpost or the tech articles on FCP Euro website. basically, the g80 chassis is super sensitive to roll center changes. i'd suggest the KW Suspension HAS Height Adjustable Spring Kit for BMW G80 M3 over just springs cuz u can corner balance it properly without it feeling bouncy. i mean, cheaping out here literally kills the handling feel u bought an M3 for. also, if u want throttle response, look at the Eventuri Carbon Fiber Intake System for BMW G80 M3. it's pricey but the induction sound is insane and the airflow data is legit. for wheels, seriously look into Apex VS-5RS Forged Wheels 19/20 setup to shed that unsprung weight. it makes a pretty huge difference in how the car pivots. good luck man, hope that helps!!

sooo i was in the same boat with my g80! for your situation, i definitely suggest starting slow. i went with the BMW M Performance HAS Kit because it keeps the factory warranty and the ride is still pretty comfortable for daily driving. honestly, its a safe bet if youre worried about reliability like i am. for the sound, a Active Autowerke G80 M3 Single Midpipe worked well for me and adds that extra oomph without being way too loud... plus it helps the throttle feel a bit more snappy. id definately talk to a pro shop before doing wheels tho!

So I just found this thread and honestly, as a daily driver owner, you gotta be careful not to blow your budget on stuff that ruins the comfort. For your situation, I'd suggest looking at it from a *value* perspective because these G80 parts get pricey fast...

1. Lowering Springs vs. HAS: If you're staying on a budget, just grab some regular lowering springs from a brand like H&R or Eibach. They're way cheaper than a HAS kit, though you lose that adjustability. But honestly, once you set the height, do you really ever change it? Probably not.
2. Mid-pipes: This is the best bang-for-your-buck for sound. Instead of a full exhaust, just get a mid-pipe from someone like MAD or Dinan. It gives you that growl without the drone, which is huge for a daily.
3. Intake: Don't overspend here. Just get any front-mount or open intake from a reputable brand like MST or BMS if you want the induction noise. You don't need the crazy expensive carbon ones to hear that turbo sneeze lol.

Just make sure to factor in the cost of an alignment after the suspension work! It's a hidden cost people always forget about, right?

To add to the point above about the HAS kits, I totally agree that staying adjustable is the way to go for a daily driver! I love the idea of keeping that factory ride quality while still getting the stance looking amazing. Reliability is seriously my biggest priority too since I would hate for a mod to cause a headache down the road!! I had a moment to think about this and wanted to ask a couple things to clarify:

  • Are you planning on doing any track days or is this car strictly for the street?
  • How much extra cabin noise or drone are you actually willing to live with? I am always a bit nervous about changing too much at once since the g80 is such a fantastic machine from the factory... honestly just want to make sure you dont end up with something that feels too harsh for a primary driver!

tl;dr: aftermarket parts can be a real letdown, staying closer to stock is way safer for a daily driver. honestly, the first few things i changed on my g80 were a total disappointment. i went with a really expensive intake from a big name brand, but unfortunately the carbon work started yellowing within months and it didnt even fit right. the midpipe everyone was hyping up was even worse, making the car drone so bad on the highway that i could barely hear my own thoughts. it was actually less refined than the setup on my buddies car who spent half as much... kinda frustrating when you pay that much for a name. the whole experience reminds me of this time i drove out to a car meet in jersey. after taking a wrong turn, i spent the afternoon at a roadside diner that only served breakfast burritos at 3 pm. there was this guy trying to fix a payphone with a butter knife for like an hour. anyway... but yeah, ive learned the hard way that a lot of these must-have accessories just mess up the reliability of a perfectly good m3.
