I'm looking for a dash cam for my G30 5 Series but really want to avoid messy wires cluttering the interior. I’ve heard about the BMW Advanced Car Eye, but is it worth the price, or should I go for a FitcamX for that integrated OEM look? Does anyone have recommendations for a 4K setup with a reliable parking mode?

Sooo I totally get the struggle with the G30 interior. You basically want to keep it looking clean without wires everywhere, right?? Before you dive in, you gotta understand that for BMWs, the power management system is super sensitive. If you hardwire a regular camera wrong, the car will literally throw 'battery discharge' errors constantly, which is why integrated solutions are so popular for us.

In my experience, I've tried a few setups on my own 5 Series and here is what I recommend:

* FitcamX 4K Dash Cam for BMW 5 Series G30 - Honestly, this is the winner for aesthetics. It replaces the plastic shroud behind your rearview mirror so it looks 100% factory. Installation is basically plug-and-play with the rain sensor power, so no running wires to the fuse box. The 4K video is pretty crisp, tho the parking mode is a bit basic compared to high-end brands.
* BMW Advanced Car Eye 3.0 Pro - I actually had the 2.0 version before. The 3.0 is much better and honestly, it's worth the price if you want zero warranty drama. It has a legit radar sensor for parking mode, which is highkey amazing because it wakes up before someone even hits you.
* VIOFO A229 Pro 4K Dual Dash Cam with Sony STARVIS 2 Sensor - If you care mostly about image quality and a reliable parking mode with a VIOFO HK4 Hardwire Kit, this is the way to go. It's not as 'stealth' as the FitcamX, but the Starvis 2 sensor is basically the industry standard for night vision right now.

Tbh, if you want that OEM look, go FitcamX. But if ur worried about parking hits, the BMW ACE 3.0 Pro is the safest bet for the G30. Gl with the install! 👍

Ok so, I actually tried the FitcamX 4K Dash Cam for BMW 5 Series G30 because I hated the look of wires too, but honestly? I had issues with the fitment and it felt kinda cheap for the price tag. Before I give more advice tho, quick question - what is your actual budget for this setup? Since you want reliable 4K parking mode, you might need an external battery pack like the BlackVue Power Magic Ultra Battery B-130W to avoid those battery discharge errors mentioned above... it gets pricey fast!

yo, just a heads up... be REALLY careful with hardwiring anything into a G30. those cars have a super sensitive power management system and if u tap the wrong fuse, ur gonna get 'battery discharge' errors every single morning. it basically bricks some of the tech features like comfort access until u drive it enough to recharge. super annoying tbh.

i went through this exact struggle with my own 5 series. i actually tried a high-end 4K setup first because i wanted the best quality, but unfortunately, it was a total letdown. the parking mode basically killed my battery because the car never truly 'sleeps' when it senses a draw. i spent way too much money just to have my car yell at me every time i started the engine.

for your situation, here's what i'd think about:
- the integrated ones that replace the mirror cover are awesome for the OEM look. i use one now and it's basically invisible.
- if you MUST have 4K with parking mode, look into a dedicated dash cam battery pack. it's more expensive upfront but saves ur car battery from dying.
- avoid anything that requires tearing apart the whole A-pillar if u can help it.

honestly, the official BMW camera is just way too bulky for my taste and the app is kinda trash. i'd definitely go with the integrated rain-sensor type instead... it's just much cleaner and half the price. good luck with the install, it's a pain but worth it! 👍
