so i just got my very first car like two weeks ago its a 2023 Buick Encore GX and I love it but I am totally panicked because I have to drive my two huge golden retrievers up to my sisters place in Oregon this weekend and I realize the back of the car is just carpet. I dont know what I was thinking lol. I tried looking online for a cargo liner thingy but there are so many options and I have no idea what the difference is between the brands like Weathertech or the ones from the dealership or the cheap ones on Amazon. Sorry if this is a really basic question but I literally dont even know if they just sit on top or if I have to like bolt them in? My budget is probably around $150 but I can go higher if it actually stays in place because the dogs are gonna be jumping all over it and I dont want it sliding around. I need to order something by tomorrow so it gets here in time because the hair is already getting everywhere. Does anyone know which one actually fits the shape of the Encore GX perfectly without gaps? I really dont want mud and dog hair getting into the side cracks of the carpet if I can help it. Which one should I get...

congrats on the new car! honestly the official Buick Encore GX Integrated Cargo Liner from the dealer was super disappointing. i had issues with it not really covering the side gaps well and the material feels kinda thin for the price. if you have two huge goldens, they are gonna kick hair into every single corner that isnt covered... its a total pain to vacuum. unfortunately the cheap universal mats from amazon are even worse because they just slide around when the dogs jump in. since you are on a deadline, grab the WeatherTech Cargo Liner for Buick Encore GX 2023 Black. it fits the floor shape perfectly and has high sides to catch the mud. it just drops right in, no tools or bolting needed at all. it might be a bit slippery for the dogs paws at first tho, so maybe throw a towel on top. you got this!

@Reply #3 - good point! Im very satisfied with my WeatherTech Cargo Liner Black 401297 Laser Measured.

  • High lip stops spills.
  • Wont shift, keeps dogs safe.
  • Reliable fit.

Came here to say the same thing lol. Great minds think alike I guess.

Unfortunately, most options dont fit perfectly and have gaps. To help narrow it down, I have two questions:

  • Do you need coverage for just the floor?
  • Or do the seat backs need protection too?

Re: "Unfortunately, most options dont fit perfectly and have..." - yeah, totally agree! I spent like three days obsessing over the Shore A hardness of different polymers before I chose my current setup lol. I'm a huge geek for technical specs and I really wanted something with a high friction coefficient so my stuff wouldnt slide everywhere. So basically, we've already figured out that the dealer liners are kinda flimsy and thin, and now the big question is if you need floor-only or full seat-back coverage. Trust me, with big dogs, you want the full coverage! I remember when I first got my GX, I bought this super cheap flimsy one from some random site and it was a total disaster... the edges curled up the first time the car sat in the sun! Hair got under the mat anyway because the fit was just garbage. After that mess, I learned you gotta look for specific things:

  • A raised perimeter lip (at least 2 inches!) to catch the mud and spills.
  • High-density TPE material that doesnt off-gas that nasty plastic smell.
  • Deep channels to trap the dog hair so it doesnt fly around while youre driving. I eventually went with a heavy-duty laser-measured version that cost me about $140 and it fits amazing! It saved my life when a gallon of water spilled during a grocery run. Not a single drop leaked onto the actual carpet because the seal was so tight. Its such a relief when the technical specs actually translate to real-world protection!
