I recently took delivery of my Cadillac Lyriq, and while I love the car, the charging cable situation in my garage is a total mess. I’m currently just looping the Dual Level Charge Cord over a hook, but it looks messy and feels like it might strain the cable over time. I’m looking for a sleek, high-quality organizer that matches the Lyriq's premium aesthetic. Ideally, I need something with a sturdy holster for the J1772 connector and a way to keep the heavy-duty cable neatly coiled off the floor. Does anyone have a specific brand or setup that fits well in a tight garage space? What’s the most durable cord management system you’ve found for the Lyriq's stock charger?
Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, Lectron makes solid stuff, but if you want something that really matches the Lyriq's premium vibe, check out the Grizzl-E Heavy Duty J1772 Connector Holster and Cable Management System.
1. In my experience, it's basically indestructible since it's heavy-duty metal, not plastic.
2. The hook is way deeper, which is GREAT for the Lyriq's thick cable so it won't slip off.
Definitely keeps things looking clean! 👍
Stumbled on this discussion today! +1 to what was said earlier, but if ur looking for budget value, I've had the BougeRV J1772 Dock and Hook for EV Charger Cable for years and it's literally indestructible for the price. Compared to the Megeery J1772 Charger Holster and Cable Hook, the BougeRV is bulkier but sturdier, while the Megeery is way sleeker for ur Lyriq's vibe. Both are cheaper than the Grizzl-E tho! 👍
For your situation, I actually went with the Lectron J1772 Nozzle Holster and Cable Organizer and it's been rock solid tbh. It basically solves the strain issue cuz the holster clicks in tight and the hook is wide enough to not kink the heavy Lyriq cord. I'm super cautious about cable heat and tension, so I'm happy this keeps everything off the floor. Honestly works well and looks premium enough for the garage space!!
Like someone mentioned about the DIY route, I totally get wanting to save some cash, but man, I've had issues with trying to over-engineer things myself lately. I'm usually all about the technical specs—looking at the AWG of the wire and calculating the exact bend radius to avoid internal copper fatigue—but unfortunately, my last attempt at a custom setup was a total disaster.
Just found this thread and honestly, I've been pretty disappointed with the common organizers people recommend. I've had issues with basic plastic hooks not being as good as expected because the Lyriq's dual-level cable is much heavier than your average EV cord. If the support isn't deep enough, you end up with a lot of tension right at the plug-in point, which can eventually damage the internal copper wiring. I've found a more methodical setup is necessary for long-term reliability:
late to the party but i just got my lyriq too and honestly that dual level cord is way heavier than i expected lol i've been trying to figure out a DIY setup because i didnt want to spend a ton on those big name brands!! here is what i've been looking at if you want to save some cash and do it yourself: - Heavy Duty Metal Hose Hanger:
* Pros: super sturdy and basically costs nothing at the hardware store plus it can definitely handle the weight of the thick cadillac cord without bending at all.
* Cons: it doesnt have a "dock" for the actual plug so it just kind of dangles there which might not be the "premium" look you want but it gets the job done!! - Custom 3D Printed J1772 Holster:
* Pros: you can find these on sites like Etsy and they look really sleek and custom plus some people make them in colors that match the car which is awesome?? * Cons: i'm a bit worried about the durability since it's just plastic and i'm always worried i'll break it if i'm in a rush or something because i'm still kind of a klutz with the charging port lol. im still trying to decide which way to go but honestly the DIY route seems like a fun way to customize the garage without breaking the bank!!
Similar situation here - I went through this exact struggle last year when I first brought my Lyriq home. Honestly, after decades of tinkering with EVs, I've seen way too many people treat their charging cables like garden hoses, and it's a huge safety risk. These heavy-duty cords carry a lot of current, and internal stress from tight loops or hanging by the connector can lead to heat buildup over time.
In my experience, I've tried a bunch of setups, but I eventually landed on the Tesla J1772 Wall Connector even though I don't drive a Tesla. It’s super sleek and matches that Cadillac premium vibe perfectly. But, since you're using the stock Dual Level cord, I switched gears in my second garage to the Wallbox Pulsar Plus Cable Holder. It's lowkey one of the best because the curvature of the hook is specifically engineered to prevent cable fatigue.
If you want something seriously heavy-duty that isn't the Grizzl-E mentioned earlier, look at the Blink Charging J1772 Connector Holster and Cable Hook. I've found it's way more robust than the budget plastic ones. I mean, the Lyriq's cord is thick, so you gotta have something that can handle that weight without sagging. Personally, I think the most important thing is getting that J1772 head into a sealed dock to keep the pins clean... literally nothing ruins a charge port faster than dust and moisture buildup. Anyway, hope that helps you tidy up the garage, it makes a world of difference. Cheers!
Finally someone says it. Ive been thinking this for a while but wasnt sure.
