I just picked up my black Cadillac Lyriq and it looks incredible, but the clear windows are killing the vibe! I want that sleek, murdered-out look without sacrificing night visibility or running into legal trouble. Should I go 15% all around, or is 20% enough to match the rear factory privacy glass? What percentage are you guys running to keep the cabin cool?

In my experience, 20% is basically the sweet spot for the Lyriq. I've tried many different setups over the years, and 20% on the front windows usually matches the rear factory privacy glass almost perfectly. If you go 15%, it'll look sick and definitely give you that murdered-out vibe, but honestly, it might be a bit too dark at night in poorly lit areas.

Here's what I recommend based on my own setup:

β€’ For the front windows, go with XPEL PRIME XR PLUS 20% Ceramic Window Tint. It's super high-quality and the heat rejection is actually insane.
β€’ For the windshield, I'd suggest XPEL PRIME XR PLUS 70% Ceramic Window Tint because it keeps the cabin cool without making it hard to see.
β€’ Definitely stick with a ceramic film like 3M Ceramic IR Series 25 if you want to keep the Lyriq's interior from turning into an oven.

Good luck with the new ride! 👍

Just sharing my experience: so I went through this last year with my own blacked-out build. Honestly, I'm pretty new to the Lyriq world but I've learned some lessons about budget vs. looks real fast. I wanted that sleek profile without spending a fortune, you know?

I ended up comparing two main routes:

1. The 15% Deep Tint: This actually gives that true "murdered-out" look you mentioned. It looks sick, but tbh, I found it kinda sketchy at night in poorly lit areas. It definitely blocks the most heat for the price.
2. The 20% Match: This is what I settled on. It’s basically the sweet spot for matching the factory rear glass. Plus, it’s usually cheaper than going for the high-end specialty films like the ones mentioned earlier.

I ended up going with 3M Color Stable Automotive Window Film in 20% and I'm super happy with it. It looks professional and cost me way less than those ultra-premium ceramic options. It keeps the cabin cool enough for my needs, though if you're in the desert, you might feel the difference. Basically, 20% is the safe bet if you're worried about the law or visibility, right?

For your situation, honestly I gotta warn you about going too dark because night visibility is no joke in a car with this much tech. In my experience over the years, 15% looks absolutely killer during the dayβ€”totally matches that murdered-out vibeβ€”but it's a NIGHTMARE when you're trying to park at night or driving through unlit neighborhoods. I've tried many setups and actually ended up regretfully stripping 15% off my last car cuz I couldn't see anything lol.

If you go 20%, it's basically the safer bet. It matches the factory rear glass well enough and keeps the cops off your back. Plus, if you're worried about heat, maybe look into high-end carbon or metallic films instead of just the basic dyed stuff mentioned earlier. Safety first tho!! I mean, you dont wanna curb those pretty Lyriq wheels just cuz you couldnt see the sidewalk, right?? Gl with the build!!

Quick questionβ€”are you mostly worried about matching the exact look of the factory glass, or is heat rejection your main priority? In my experience over the years, matching the front to the back can be tricky because factory glass is just dyed, it doesn't actually block much heat.

Before I give advice on the specific percentage, I'd really suggest checking your local state laws first cuz 15% is technically illegal in most places and will definitely get you pulled over. If you want that sleek look while staying safe at night, you might want to look into 3M Crystalline Series Window Film or XPEL PRIME XR PLUS Ceramic Window Tint. They offer high heat rejection even at lighter shades. Honestly, I've tried many setups and going too dark on a black car makes night visibility a real struggle. Are you planning on doing the windshield too? 👍

Based on my experience with various luxury builds, I would urge caution regarding the 15% option. While it definitely achieves that murdered-out look perfectly during the day, it presents several safety and functional risks that are easy to overlook when you're just focused on the aesthetics. I would suggest keeping these specific factors in mind:

  • Screen glare: The Lyriq cabin is very bright due to the massive LED displays, and heavy tint can cause an internal reflection that obscures your side mirrors at night.
  • Safety sensors: Be careful with films that have high metal content as they might degrade the performance of your onboard connectivity.
  • Heat soak: On a black vehicle, the temperature delta between the glass and the film can be significant, so you need a high-quality option that wont bubble under pressure. I've seen some pretty solid results using SunTek CXP 20 for a clean look that still maintains decent visibility, imo. It is a good middle ground that avoids the pitch black issues while matching the rear privacy glass well enough. Make sure your installer uses a computer-cut system tho... hand-cutting on the Lyriq's tight tolerances is risky because you dont want a blade anywhere near those window seals. Better safe than sorry, honestly.
