Which towing hitch is best for a Cadillac XT5?

Hey everyone! I recently picked up a 2022 Cadillac XT5, and I’m absolutely loving the ride so far. However, I’ve realized that I really need to add a towing hitch to make it more versatile for my weekend hobbies. My main goal is to haul a couple of mountain bikes on a tray-style rack, but I also have a small utility trailer for occasional runs to the home improvement store.

I’ve been doing some digging online, and honestly, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by the options. I’ve seen the Draw-Tite and Curt hitches mentioned quite a bit, but I’m worried about how they’ll look once installed. The XT5 has such a clean rear aesthetic, and I’m really hoping to find a hitch that doesn’t hang too low or look like a complete eyesore. Does anyone have experience with a 'hidden' style hitch where the main bar is tucked behind the bumper?

Another thing I'm curious about is the installation process. I’m fairly handy, but I’m hesitant about whether I’ll need to trim the rear fascia or if there are 'no-drill' options that fit perfectly with the existing bolt holes. Also, if you’ve installed one, did you go with the 1.25-inch or the 2-inch receiver? I’m leaning towards the 2-inch just for more rack stability, but I’d love to hear if that causes any clearance issues on driveways.

My budget is around $250-$400 for the part itself, and I’m planning to do the labor myself if it’s not too crazy. I just want to make sure I’m buying something high-quality that won’t rust out after one season of salt on the roads.

For those of you who have added a hitch to your XT5, which brand or specific model do you think provides the best balance of towing capacity, ease of install, and discrete looks?

yo! honestly i was in the exact same boat when i got my XT5. i really didnt want to ruin that clean look either... but you definitely need the hitch for those bikes.

In my experience, you basically have two main paths for the XT5:

* Curt 13271 Class 3 Trailer Hitch with 2-inch Receiver: this one is pretty much the standard. it's super sturdy and works great for tray racks. the main bar is mostly hidden, but you can still see the receiver hanging out under the bumper. plus its usually cheaper, around $200.
* Draw-Tite 76115 Max-Frame Class 3 Trailer Hitch: i think this one sits just a tiny bit higher and feels really solid for a utility trailer. i mean, basically they both look similar, but i went with the 2-inch for the stability like you mentioned. it makes a HUGE difference with bike rack wobble.

so yeah, i'd say go with the Curt 13271 Class 3 Trailer Hitch if youre on a budget, but honestly the Draw-Tite 76115 Max-Frame Class 3 Trailer Hitch felt a little more premium to me. neither required heavy trimming on mine, just a little patience with the bolts! and seriously, stick with the 2-inch receiver. the 1.25 is just too flimsy for mountain bikes imo. gl with the install!! 👍

Honestly, if ur looking for the best bang for your buck while keeping that clean XT5 look, I reallyyy think you should check out the Draw-Tite 76115 Class 3 Max-Frame Trailer Hitch. I know it was mentioned before, but seriously, it's usually around $180-$220 online which is a steal compared to the dealership prices.

I actually tried a different route first with a cheaper generic brand and it was a total disaster—the finish was terrible and it started rusting within months. Plus, it hung down sooo low it looked like a total eyesore. Such a bummer.

For the install, definitely go with the 2-inch receiver. It's way more stable for a tray-style bike rack. If you're worried about clearance, I mean, it's a Cadillac, not a monster truck, so you gotta be careful on steep driveways anyway, but the Draw-Tite tucks up pretty high. Most of these are 'no-drill' and bolt right into the factory holes, so you wont have to hack up your fascia too much. Just make sure you have a torque wrench handy cuz it's a bit of a workout getting those bolts tight enough! gl with the install!

Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, I was worried about the budget too since the dealer quoted me something insane like $800. I ended up getting a 2-inch receiver for under $250 online and installed it myself.

1. It's way more versatile for racks.
2. No drilling was needed, just some simple tools.
3. Plus, the 2-inch keeps my bike rack sooo much more stable on the highway!

Honestly, if youre reallyyy worried about safety and keeping that clean look, I suggest looking at the Stealth Hitches Rack Only + Towing Combination for 2017-2024 Cadillac XT5. It is more expensive than the Curt or Draw-Tite, but the receiver block actually detaches when youre not using it! Since youre a beginner like me, just make sure to use a torque wrench—loose bolts are a huge safety risk. I went with the 2-inch for better rack stability, but be careful on steep driveways cuz it might scrape if you're loaded down!
