The Texas heat is absolutely killing my dash, and my old universal sunshade fits my Silverado terribly. I’m looking for something that actually covers the corners and stays snug against the glass. Does anyone have experience with WeatherTech or Covercraft custom fits for this truck? Which one stays coolest and is easiest to fold up?

Hey! I totally get that frustration because the Texas sun is absolutely brutal on interiors! Honestly, I’ve been through a few cheap options myself that just turned into floppy mess after a week.

For your situation, I would suggest going with the Covercraft Custom UVS100 Sunscreen. I’ve been using one in my Silverado for about two years now and it’s been amazing! Seriously, the fit is so snug it practically snaps into the corners.

Here is why I love it compared to the others:
- It has a triple-layered construction with a foam core that actually acts as an insulator. It doesn't just block light; it stops the heat from soaking through!
- It’s a folding accordion style, which I find way easier to handle than the roll-up ones that always want to spring back at you.
- It’s super sturdy. It doesn't sag in the middle like those universal ones do after they get hot.

Now, a quick word of caution—since it is a hard board, you have to be careful when folding it so you don't whack your passenger or the rearview mirror! I mean... I’ve definitely knocked my mirror out of alignment a few times being too fast with it lol. Also, some people prefer the WeatherTech Custom Fit SunShade because it has a silver side for summer and a black side for winter, but in Texas, do we even have winter? FWIW, the Covercraft feels more premium and durable to me. Hope this helps you keep that dash from cracking!

Seconding the recommendation above for custom fits! Honestly, generic shades are a waste because they leave gaps that let the heat cook your electronics. I've had issues with the cheaper roll-up ones warping over time, which is super annoying.

If you want something heavy-duty, check out the WeatherTech Custom Fit SunShade. It's double-sided—black for winter and silver for summer—which is great for tech protection, though it's a bit bulky to roll up. Just be careful with the fitment around the rearview mirror; sometimes it's tight!

Anyway, custom is definitely the only way to go in Texas. Hope this helps!

Hey there! The Texas heat is no joke. For your Silverado, both WeatherTech and Covercraft offer excellent custom-fit sunshades that significantly reduce interior temperatures.

Many users find WeatherTech provides a slightly more precise, snug fit with minimal corner gaps, almost like it's oversized. However, it rolls up and can be bulkier for storage. Covercraft's UVS100 is praised for its "origami" folding, making it much easier to store and maneuver daily, though some note minor edge gaps. For maximum coverage, WeatherTech; for ease of folding, Covercraft.

I went through this last year, and honestly, the Texas heat is no joke when it comes to vehicle safety. People often overlook how much damage that UV exposure does to the integrity of your dash and the sensitive electronics hidden behind it. I'm a bit of a stickler for protection, so I've experimented with a few of these high-end custom options on my own Silverado.

While others mentioned the Covercraft UVS100 Custom Sunscreen and the WeatherTech Custom Fit SunShade, my journey actually led me toward focusing on the thickness and the gap-free fitment. I've seen some shades that are so thin they actually get soft and start sagging in 100-degree weather, which is super dangerous because it can eventually drop right onto your console while you're parked. I eventually settled on the AutoSport Precision Fit Sunshield because it felt more rigid.

One thing to be careful about: make sure you're getting the one specifically cut for your mirror housing sensor pod. If you have the safety cameras behind the rearview mirror, a generic cut won't sit flush, and that small gap lets in a massive amount of concentrated heat. I've found that the folding "accordion" style ones are generally easier to handle in the cab than the roll-up versions, which can be a real pain to wrestle with when you have a passenger. Safety-first, right? Keeping that interior temp down isn't just about comfort; it's about making sure your dash doesn't crack and fly apart if an airbag ever needs to deploy. Hope this adds another perspective to your search!

Honestly, if you're looking for a budget-friendly alternative that performs like the high-end custom brands, I'd suggest the HeatShield Custom Fit Sunshade for Chevrolet Silverado. It uses a thick, multi-layered material that's technically superior at reflecting UV than the basic bubble foil stuff. It stays snug against teh glass with zero gaps. Just be careful with the roll-up style; it takes up a bit more room than the folding ones, but the thermal protection in that Texas heat is legit!

Just catching up on the thread and totally agree that those generic ones are a total waste of money in this heat. I remember when I first got my truck I tried to save a few bucks with a universal one from a big box store and it just ended up melting and sticking to the dash after one summer... not fun to clean up. Like someone mentioned earlier about the fit being key, I eventually found the AutoTech Zone Custom Fit Windshield Sun Shade for Chevrolet Silverado and it has been solid for the last three years. Its basically a middle ground between the super expensive brands and the cheap junk. It fits the big Silverado glass perfectly without the high price tag of the Covercraft. Its a roll-up style which is kinda bulky but honestly for the price I dont mind tossing it in the back seat. Its held up through three Texas summers now and havent seen any sagging yet. Good budget option if you want custom fit without the brand name premium.
