I’ve been reading till my eyes bleed and I’m still stuck. Half the people say a basic leveling kit is fine for 33s but others swear you’ll rub like crazy on my 2022 Silverado unless you go for a full lift. I’ve got about $2,000 to spend before my Arizona desert trip next month and I don't want to waste money on useless vanity parts.

  • skid plates that actually take a hit
  • lighting for dusty night trails
  • recovery boards or a winch mount?

Should I prioritize the suspension or just grab some better tires and call it a day? The conflicting info is driving me nuts...

@Reply #2 - good point! Quick question tho: is your truck an LT, Custom, or a factory lifted trim? It makes a huge difference for tire clearance. If you are solo in the desert, prioritize recovery.

  • Grab Maxtrax MKII Recovery Boards instead of a winch. They are faster in sand and easier to store.
  • Get a CBI Offroad Front Skid Plate Silverado 1500 because factory plastic wont handle desert rocks if you bottom out.

Man, youre gonna love the AZ desert! It's absolutely fantastic out there. I spent years building my Chevy on a budget and honestly... don't overthink the lift. I wasted so much cash on flashy bars before I realized performance is king. For that $2k, id skip the expensive full lifts and grab some Bilstein 5100 Series Ride Height Adjustable Struts for the front and matching shocks for the rear. They're amazing for the price and let you level the truck properly without those cheap spacers. I once cracked an oil pan out by Sedona because I didnt have armor, so definitely look at Rough Country Front Skid Plate 2019-2024 Silverado. It's a total lifesaver! Also, desert nights are pitch black and the dust is real... definitely get some Baja Designs Squadron Sport Amber LED Pods to cut through it. TL;DR: Spend your money on high-quality shocks and engine armor. Skip the vanity stuff and you'll be golden.

Came here to say the same thing lol. Great minds think alike I guess.

Honestly, I've been really satisfied with the more performance-oriented brands compared to the ones that just sell the look, especially for the desert. It makes a world of difference when things get dusty. To figure out which way you should go, are you mostly doing high-speed desert runs or slow rock crawling? Also, what trim is your truck? Knowing if youre starting with the base suspension or the Z71 makes a huge difference in how that $2,000 budget should be split up. Just wanna make sure you dont end up with gear meant for mud when youre hitting Arizona sand...

I went the cheap route with a level kit on my 2021 and unfortunately it was a total letdown. Had issues with rubbing the second the trail got rough... just not as good as expected. Honestly, prioritize the suspension before you buy tires. Are you planning on hitting high-speed washes or just crawling through rocky stuff? Knowing exactly how hard you're gonna push it helps.
