Hey everyone! I recently picked up a 2016 Chevrolet SS, and while I’m absolutely head-over-heels for the LS3 power, I feel like the stock exhaust note is a bit too muffled for a car with this much personality. I really want to let that 6.2L V8 sing, but since this is my daily driver, I’m trying to be careful about making it too obnoxious.
My main concern is cabin drone. I do a lot of highway commuting, and the last thing I want is a constant humming that ruins the interior experience. I’ve been looking at the Corsa Sport cat-back system because I’ve heard their reflective sound cancellation technology is great for eliminating drone, but I’ve also seen some guys rave about Solo Performance or going with Kooks headers paired with the stock mufflers.
Does anyone here have experience with these setups on the SS? Specifically, I’m curious how they interact with the factory NPP dual-mode exhaust valves if I decide to keep them, or if it's better to just swap the whole system out. I’m looking for that deep, aggressive muscle car growl under wide-open throttle, but I need it to stay civil when I’m just cruising through my neighborhood.
What performance exhaust would you recommend for the best balance of volume and daily drivability without getting that annoying highway drone?
Hmm, I've had a different experience looking into this, and respectfully, I'd actually suggest a different approach if you're really worried about keeping things safe and civil in your neighborhood. While the Corsa is awesome, a lot of guys forget that swapping the whole system can sometimes mean losing that factory NPP valve control, which I think is a huge safety net for keeping the peace with neighbors!
Since this is your daily, I'd be careful about deleting the valves. I've been looking at the Borla S-Type Cat-Back Exhaust System 140641 because it's specifically designed to work WITH your factory actuators.
- **Borla S-Type:** You keep the 'Touring' mode for the highway (no drone!) but it really screams when you open it up.
- **Kooks Headers:** They sound mean, but honestly, headers can sometimes cause engine bay heat issues if you aren't careful with the install.
- **Solo Performance:** Great value, but it doesn't always offer that same 'flip-of-a-switch' quietness.
Keeping those valves is definitely the safest bet for a daily driver. Hope this helps!
TL;DR: Keep your NPP mufflers and add Kooks 1-7/8 inch Stainless Steel Long Tube Headers with a catted connection pipe.
In my experience, the factory dual-mode exhaust is actually the best setup for a daily driver because you keep the quiet 'touring' mode for the highway. If you swap to a full cat-back, you lose that functionality. Pairing the stock mufflers with Kooks Headers and Connection Pipes with Green Cats gives you that deep LS3 bark when you're on it, but it's totally silent at 70mph. Plus, headers actually add real power, whereas a cat-back is mostly just for noise. FWIW, I've tried many setups over the years, and spending money on headers provides much better value for your dollar than just a muffler swap!
Curious about one thing: what's your actual budget for this? Honestly, for a cost-effective setup, have you looked into a Solo Performance SS-Mach-Shorty-WC Cat-Back Exhaust? It's usually around $900 adn sounds great. Hope this helps!

Honestly, for a daily driver, I'd go with the Corsa Sport Cat-Back Exhaust System 14859. I've heard it's the best for zero drone on the highway, though it might be a bit loud? 🚗
