I’m looking to give my Z06 a bit more growl! The stock NPP is decent, but I want something deeper and louder without unbearable highway drone. I've been eyeing Borla and Akrapovič, but I'm torn. Does anyone have experience with these or other high-flow setups? Which system offers the best performance gains while keeping that crisp exhaust note?
> be careful about the highway drone before you swap!!
Seconding the recommendation above about keeping those valves! Ok so, I once tried a cheap straight-pipe setup and basically cooked my rear bumper sensors from the heat... it was SO bad. If your looking for a budget-friendly but safe setup, maybe check out the Flowmaster American Thunder Axle-Back Exhaust System? It's usually under $1,200. Just make sure to check the clearances so you dont melt anything! gl
Respectfully, I'd consider another option before dropping huge money on Akrapovič. It’s a bit overkill imo.
* Billy Boat Fusion Exhaust: Great NPP integration and much deeper growl.
* Borla S-Type Axle-Back: No drone at all and way cheaper.
Honestly, you get the same performance gains and crisp note without the "exotic" tax. These are just more practical for a daily driver Z06. peace!
yo!! oh man, i totally get it... the stock NPP is cool but it just doesnt have that raw roar you want from a Z06, right? i was literally obsessing over this a few months ago. i looked at the Akrapovič stuff and seriously... who has $5k+ just for an exhaust?? it's insane! i mean, it looks cool but my wallet said no way lol.
heres what i found after doing way too much research and trying to save some cash:
- honestly, the best bang for your buck is probably the Borla S-Type Axle-Back Exhaust System. I found it online for around $2,200. It sounds amazing! its deep and aggressive when you step on it but literally has zero drone on the highway. I love it so much!!
- if youre on a tighter budget, you should highkey check out the Corsa Performance Double Helixx X-Pipe. it costs way less (around $550-$600) and basically wakes up the stock system by removing some of the restriction. it sounds much crispier... maybe thats all you actually need?
- i also looked at the MagnaFlow Competition Series Axle-Back Exhaust which is usually a bit cheaper than Borla, maybe $1,900? but i heard it might drone a tiny bit more? idk for sure, but worth a look if youre trying to save every penny.
imo, the Borla ATAK Axle-Back Exhaust System is fantastic too if you want it LOUD, but it's a bit more expensive than the S-Type. definitely skip the Akrapovič unless you just have money to burn lol. anyway hope that helps... gl with the choice!! peace 👍
For your situation, be careful about the highway drone before you swap!! honestly, it can get pretty unbearable cuz the cabin is already noisy.
1. i would suggest looking at Magnaflow... it gives a deeper rumble than most imo.
2. make sure you keep the AFM valves or it'll sound like a tractor in V4 mode.
it's easy to mess up the valve actuators during install, so just watch out for that... gl!
