Hey everyone! I finally took delivery of my Chevrolet Silverado EV recently, and man, this truck is an absolute beast. I’m loving the instant torque and that futuristic look, but now that it’s sitting in my driveway, it feels a little too 'stock' for my liking. I really want to personalize the exterior to make it more functional for my weekend trips while also giving it a bit more of a rugged edge.

Since this is a brand-new platform, I’m finding it a bit tricky to figure out which accessories are actually worth the investment and which ones fit perfectly with the unique body lines of the EV version. I’m particularly interested in things that won't absolutely tank my range. For example, I’ve been looking into high-quality tonneau covers—maybe a low-profile hard folding one—to keep my gear dry in the bed without creating a ton of drag.

I’m also considering some heavy-duty running boards or side steps because the step-up height is a bit more than my family is used to, but I want something that looks sleek and integrated, not bulky. Another thing on my radar is paint protection; given how much surface area this truck has, I’m worried about rock chips on the front fascia. Has anyone tried specific mud flaps or a clear bra kit that fits the Silverado EV’s unique front end?

I’ve got a budget of about $1,500 to $2,000 to get started on these upgrades. I’d love to hear from anyone who has already started modding theirs. What are the top exterior accessories you’ve installed so far, and did you notice any impact on your miles-per-kWh after adding them?

Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, I was super worried about my range too, so I went with the Bak Industries BakFlip MX4 Hard Folding Truck Bed Cover and it fits the Silverado EV lines perfectly. It actually keeps things sleek without the drag. Also, definitely look into XPEL Ultimate Plus Paint Protection Film for that front end... it's pricey but worth it for the peace of mind against rock chips. I spent about $1,200 total so far and my mi/kWh is still solid. gl!

TL;DR: Focus on high-quality mud guards and textured side steps to protect that massive paint surface from rock chips while keeping the family safe!

Similar situation here—I remember pulling my Silverado EV into the driveway and thinking the exact same thing. It looks incredible, but man, it feels naked without some protection! My biggest worry was safety and long-term wear, especially with how much debris those tires kick up. Basically, I was terrified of a stray rock ruining the lower door panels after just one week of driving.

Since someone already mentioned PPF, I'll share my experience with physical barriers. I went with the WeatherTech No-Drill MudFlaps for Chevrolet Silverado EV and honestly, they're a lifesaver. They fit the factory lines perfectly and caught so much gunk that would've otherwise blasted my paint. For the step-up height, I was super paranoid about my kids slipping on chrome bars when they're wet, so I looked for something with a high-traction surface. I ended up installing the Go Rhino RB20 Slim Running Boards with Protective Bedliner Coating. They're sleek and dont stick out like crazy, so the aero impact felt minimal to me.

I mean, I havent noticed any real drop in my miles-per-kWh, maybe 1-2% at most? To me, the peace of mind knowing my family wont slip and my paint is safe is worth way more than a tiny bit of range. Plus, the black textured finish looks so much more rugged than the stock look! Good luck with the build, it's such a fun truck to mod. 👍

Before I dive into a full list, are you looking to do the installs yourself, or are you planning on taking it to a shop? Honestly, your $2,000 budget will go twice as far if you’re a DIYer, but you have to be REALLY careful with the new platform. Since you’re concerned about that massive front end and rock chips, a solid middle ground between doing nothing and a $5k professional PPF wrap is a high-end DIY ceramic coating like CarPro CQuartz UK 3.0. It basically creates a sacrificial layer that makes the paint super slick. It won't stop a huge flying stone, but it's AMAZING for keeping the truck clean and protecting against smaller debris. I’ve found that the slicker the surface, the less likely things are to "grab" the paint. Just a heads up though—the prep work is everything. You’ll need to do a full decontamination and maybe a light polish first, which is a big job on a truck this size. Also, just a cautious tip: if you do end up buying any bolt-on accessories like steps or guards, double-check the torque specs for the EV-specific frame. You don't want to mess with the structural integrity near the battery casing. It’s a beast of a truck, but you gotta treat it with a bit more finesse than the old gas versions, you know?

yo, congrats on the truck! Honestly, I would suggest focusing on a low-profile tonneau first cuz it keeps the bed aero. Warning: dont get those bulky, lifted racks... they'll literally KILL your range on the highway. I spent about $1,100 on my hard-folding cover and a set of sleek running boards and I've been super happy. The boards kinda help with rock chips on the sides too. gl!

Respectfully, I'd consider another option before jumping into steps. Honestly, running boards can seriously mess with the aero under the truck. I'd actually suggest a different approach—maybe look into the factory power-retractable ones if you can. They're tucked away when driving to save range, which is basically a must for EVs. Also, be careful with DIY clear bras; the front sensor layout is tricky, so you might wanna consider a pro install instead. ⚡
