so i just picked up my equinox ev yesterday and honestly im kinda terrified i dont know what im doing lol. this is my first electric car ever and i spent like two hours just trying to figure out how to change the radio station so please bear with me if these are stupid questions. i live in chicago so the snow is gonna be a thing soon and i was thinking i should probably get some heavy duty floor mats? the ones it came with seem kinda flimsy for all the salt and slush.
my budget is pretty tight right now maybe around 400 or 500 bucks since the down payment basically wiped me out but i want to make sure the car stays nice for my commute. i was looking online and saw people talking about:
im really confused about the charging stuff mostly. my logic was just plug it into the wall at home but people are saying i need extra cables or something? also the center console is like a giant black hole so maybe an organizer tray? if anyone has the same car and found stuff that actually fits let me know... i dont wanna waste money on junk from amazon that doesnt fit right.
Congrats on the new ride. I have been driving EVs for about six years now and Chicago winters are a whole different beast compared to summer driving. I remember my first winter with an EV, I was totally paranoid about the battery and the salt. One thing I learned is that you dont need to drop a fortune all at once to keep the car nice. Since your budget is tight, I would definitely prioritize the mats first. I found that TuxMat Chevy Equinox EV All-Weather Floor Mats are amazing because they cover way more of the carpet than the factory ones, almost like a bathtub for your feet. It keeps the salt from seeping into the floorboards which is where that funky winter smell usually starts. For the back, I grabbed the Chevrolet Equinox EV Integrated Cargo Liner and it has been great for hauling wet gear or groceries without ruining the seat backs. About the charging, honestly, if you have a short commute, you might be fine just using the cord that came with the car for a bit. If you really need a faster charge on a budget, I used a Mustart Level 2 Portable EV Charger 26 Amp for my garage for a long time and it worked perfectly without needing a super expensive wall box. Just plugs into a 240v outlet. Dont stress the screen protector tbh, I have never scratched a car screen in a decade of owning cars. Save that money for a decent Topfit Center Console Organizer for Equinox EV to fix that black hole in the middle.
Im really happy with my Equinox EV so far. For Chicago winters, you definitely need WeatherTech FloorLiner DigitalFit mats to handle the salt and slush. I also suggest the Lectron Tesla to J1772 Charging Adapter 48A for more charging options when youre out.
