So I finally picked up a C7 Z06 a few months back and man this thing is a beast but I am starting to feel like it needs more downforce for when I head out to Sebring later this spring. Right now it is just got the base level aero and it feels a bit light in the front when I am really pushing it through the high speed stuff. I have been looking around online and I am honestly just getting more confused the more I read because everyone has a different opinion on what works and what is just for show.
I saw a lot of guys on the forums saying just go with the OEM Stage 3 kit with the big winglets and the clear wickerbill in the back but then I read some other threads where people are complaining that it adds way too much drag and you lose like 10mph on the straightaways which sounds like a huge trade off. Then there is the APR Performance stuff which looks amazing but I have heard some horror stories about the carbon fiber cracking if you actually use it for track days instead of just looking pretty at car shows. Also looked at LG Motorsports because they seem to know their racing stuff but their wing looks huge and I am worried it is gonna be overkill for a car that I still drive to work on Fridays sometimes.
Here is what I am looking for:
Does anyone here have actual track experience with the different stages or maybe a specific aftermarket brand that hits that sweet spot between downforce and drag? I dont want to turn the car into a brick but I definitely need more grip in the corners than what I have now...
Honestly, Sebring is pretty rough on aero so you want something durable. I went through the same thing and ended up going with a mix of parts. The ACS Composite C7 Z06 Front Splitter Stage 3 Winglets is basically bulletproof and handles the Florida sun way better than cheaper carbon clear coats that eventually yellow. It is a solid, functional choice for track use. For the rear, the GM Performance C7 Z06 Stage 3 Aero Upgrade Kit is actually pretty versatile. You can just unscrew the center wickerbill for the drive home to reduce drag, then bolt it back on when you get to the paddock. It definitely fixes that light feeling in the nose at high speeds. This setup stays way under your five grand limit too. Lemme know if you need any specific install tips, Ive done this a few times.
To add to the point above: watch your ground clearance. I suggest:
Theyre sturdy but dont scrape em!
This is exactly what I needed to hear. Youre a lifesaver honestly.
Unfortunately, many kits are just drag monsters that kill your top speed. I spent way too much time looking at CFD data and the G-Stream Comp800 Corvette Rear Wing is much more efficient than the OEM wickerbill. If the front feels floaty, check out the Katech C7 Carbon Fiber Front Splitter specs. They actually use wind tunnels instead of just guessing. Let me know if you want the data sheets.
