Which roof rack systems work best for a Chevy Traverse?

So I finally got a 2022 Chevy Traverse for our family camping trips up to the Adirondacks this summer and man I need more room. I already have an old Thule cargo box from my brother but I need the actual crossbars now. I was looking at the Thule WingBar Evo but then I saw some reviews saying it sits super high off the roof which might look kinda goofy on a newer Traverse? I also checked out the Yakima JetStream bars but their website says I need some specific landing pad kit and it ends up being way over my $400 budget once you add all the parts. Does anyone have a setup that doesnt whistle at highway speeds or break the bank?

Building on the earlier suggestion, I'm obsessed with my Malone AirFlow2 50 inch Aluminum Cross Rails! I hauled gear all summer and they stayed totally silent. Amazing value for the Traverse!

^ This. Id be careful with budget rails. Seeing a set snap on the Northway once was enough for me. Yakima is a decent option.

I went through this exact same headache last year with my Traverse. I originally tried some cheap generic bars because I didnt want to drop huge money, but man, the whistle was unbearable once we hit 60mph. It sounded like a tea kettle was stuck to my roof. I ended up biting the bullet and getting the Brightlines Crossbars for 2018-2023 Chevrolet Traverse which are specifically for those flush rails. They sit much lower than the Thule WingBar Evo Aluminum Aerodynamic Roof Rack Bars and cost way less, usually under $180. Just be careful when youre installing them tho... make sure the rubber gaskets are seated perfectly or youll get a weird vibration. I would suggest double-checking the torque on the bolts after your first hour of driving because they tend to settle. They look way more integrated than the Yakima stuff and wont blow your budget.

Oh man, I literally just saw this thread and I am in the EXACT same boat right now! I have been scouring every corner of the internet for weeks trying to find a setup for my 2022 Traverse that doesnt cost a fortune or look like a total eyesore. It is honestly so frustrating!!

  • I checked out those high-end aero bars and totally agree with you... they sit way too high and look super goofy on the newer roofline.
  • The other big name brands are amazing quality but those specific fit kits make the price jump way over that $400 mark which is just insane.
  • Ive been dealing with this for like two months and still havent pulled the trigger because I am terrified of that high-pitched highway whistle everyone talks about. Following this thread super closely because I am totally stuck too! Hopefully someone here has the magic answer because I am about to lose my mind trying to get ready for our summer trips!!
