I am seriously so fed up with these cheap crossbars I got off Amazon. The listing promised a perfect fit for my 2022 Chevy Traverse but honestly they are garbage. They whistle so loud above 40mph it sounds like a tea kettle is going off on my roof and I noticed some scuffing on the side rails yesterday when I was washing the car. I am ready to just chuck them in the trash and spend the money on something that actually works because we have a huge family trip to the Smoky Mountains coming up in three weeks and I refuse to listen to that whistling for ten hours straight.
I need something that actually locks in tight and wont ruin the paint. Here is what I am looking for:
- Budget is around $450 tops if possible
- Must be able to hold a heavy Thule cargo box without shifting
- Prefer something low profile so I can still get into my garage
- Needs to be quiet because my kids will lose it if the car is making weird noises the whole way there
Does anyone have a specific brand or model that they use on their Traverse? I keep seeing Thule and Yakima but they have like fifty different fit kits and I am so confused on which one actually matches the Chevy rails without needing a PhD to install...

Ugh, that whistling is a nightmare for a long drive. Ive messed with a bunch of racks and those generic universal bars are always a gamble. For a 2022 Traverse, you need something that actually fits the side rails so it doesnt slide or scuff. Heres what I recommend:
- Thule WingBar Evo 135 cm Black with Thule Evo Raised Rail Foot Pack. These are basically silent, tho they might push your $450 budget.
- Yakima JetStream 60 inch Aerodynamic Bars with Yakima TimberLine Towers. Very low profile and they handle heavy boxes like a champ.
- Chevrolet Traverse Roof Rack Cross Rail Package 84254466. These are the factory parts. They fit perfectly and are usually way cheaper than the premium brands. Factory rails are the best value, but Thule is the gold standard for noise. Just make sure everything is torqued down tight before you hit the highway.
