Must-have performance upgrades and accessories for a Dodge Ram 1500?

I recently joined the Ram family after picking up a 5th gen 1500 with the 5.7L Hemi, and I am absolutely loving the truck so far. However, it still feels a little too stock for my taste, and I want to start making some meaningful improvements. I am primarily using it as a daily driver with some light towing on the weekends, so I am looking for a balance between better performance and practical utility.

I have been looking into things like a S&B cold air intake or maybe a Borla cat-back exhaust system to get a better sound and potentially pick up a bit more throttle response, but I am curious what actually makes a noticeable difference in the real world. On the accessory side, I am definitely in the market for a solid hard-folding tonneau cover and some high-quality floor liners since I live in an area with a lot of mud and rain.

I do not want to go too crazy and risk my warranty or completely ruin the fuel economy, so I am trying to be smart about where I spend my money first. There are so many options out there that it is honestly getting a little overwhelming to figure out what is worth the cash and what is just for show. If you could only pick three upgrades to do first, which ones would you say are absolutely essential for a new Ram 1500 owner?

so i get the itch to mod. but honestly id be cautious with a full exhaust if ur worried about the warranty. for a pretty budget setup that actually works:

Seconding the recommendation above. I've been around the Ram forums for a long time and seen plenty of guys regret going too loud with a full exhaust because of the drone when the MDS kicks in on the highway. If you're towing, that drone might actually drive you crazy... definitely be careful there. I always prioritize reliability and long-term safety over sound. Since you mentioned mud and rain, I'd suggest looking at these floor liners:

  • WeatherTech FloorLiner DigitalFit is basically the industry standard. They're super rigid and hold a ton of water, but they can feel kinda like hard plastic under your feet.
  • 3D MAXpider KAGU Series Floor Mat is what I usually suggest lately. They have a more premium texture but are still 100% waterproof. They dont slide around at all because of the fiber backing. For the tonneau, if you wanna have real security and weather protection:
  • BAK BAKFlip MX4 Hard Folding Truck Bed Cover is great because it's low profile and you can close the tailgate with the last panel down.
  • UnderCover ArmorFlex Hard Folding Truck Bed Cover has a Line-X type coating that's way tougher against scratches if you're actually using the bed for hauling gear. As for performance, S&B Filters Cold Air Intake 75-5106 is the only one I'd trust. It's fully enclosed so it actually pulls cold air, unlike open filters that just soak up engine heat. Make sure to check the seals during installation. Tbh tho, keeping the powertrain stock is usually the safest bet for your warranty. Anyway, hope that helps you out!
