What are the best cold air intakes for a Dodge Dart?

Hey everyone! I’ve been driving my Dodge Dart for about a year now, and while I love the handling, I feel like the engine is a bit ‘choked up’ from the factory. I’m really looking to open things up under the hood to get a little more throttle response and, let’s be honest, that nice aggressive intake growl when I step on it.

I’ve been doing some digging, but I’m honestly a bit overwhelmed by the options. It seems like the 1.4L Turbo, the 2.0L Tigershark, and the 2.4L versions all have different needs, so I want to make sure I’m looking at the right gear for my specific setup. I’m currently leaning toward a dry filter because I’ve heard some horror stories about oiled filters messing with the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensors on these cars, but I’m open to suggestions if you guys have had better experiences.

I’ve looked into the Injen Power-Flow and the K&N Typhoon series, but I’ve also seen some people swearing by the Mopar/Magneti Marelli setups or even custom short-ram intakes. My budget is around $300-$400, and I’m really looking for something that offers a noticeable gain in turbo spool sound (if applicable) and doesn't trigger a Check Engine Light the second I pull out of the driveway. I’m also a bit concerned about heat soak during the summer months, so if any of you have noticed a drop in performance after the engine gets hot with a certain brand, please let me know.

For those of you who have modified your Darts, which cold air intake gave you the best balance of performance and sound without being a total nightmare to install? I’d love to hear your long-term reviews!

Quick question—which engine do you actually have? Technical specs and heat soak issues vary wildly between the 1.4L turbo and the NA 2.0/2.4 engines, so I wanna make sure I'm giving you the right data.

TL;DR from this thread: Most folks agree that heat soak is the real enemy here, and dropping $400 on an open-filter kit like the K&N Typhoon Air Intake System 69-2544TP might just leave you losing power when things get hot. Honestly, safety-first perspective here—protecting your MAF sensor and avoiding CELs is priority #1. If you're on a budget, look at the HPSI Silicone RAM Air Induction Hose combined with a high-quality AEM Dryflow Synthetic Air Filter 28-20448. It gives you that growl and turbo spool for under $200 without the oiled-filter drama. GL!

Honestly, I've been messing with Darts for like five years now, and the biggest lesson I learned is that you dont need to drop $400 to get that growl you're after. I spent way too much on fancy setups early on, but eventually realized that most of those open-filter kits just suck in hot air from the engine bay, especially in traffic. If you're worried about heat soak and that MAF sensor issue, I'd seriously look into the Deyeme Racing Big RAM Intake or even just the MPx Lightweight Underdrive Pulley combined with a high-flow dry filter.

Here's what I'd recommend for a solid balance:
* AEM DryFlow Air Filter 28-20447: This is a lifesaver cuz it's oil-free, so no sensor gunk, and it fits the factory box.
* ECU Tuning Group Cold Air Intake: A bit pricier, but the build quality is legit and it doesn't throw codes.

Whatever you do, just make sure to keep the factory snorkel if you can... it helps keep the temps down. But yeah, if you want that turbo spool sound on the 1.4L, a dry filter and a diverter valve upgrade will do way more than a $400 pipe ever will. Good luck with the build!!

sooo i totally get the frustration, honestly. I tried the K&N Typhoon Air Intake System 69-2544TP on my 1.4L turbo and unfortunately it was kinda disappointing... the heat soak in summer was REAL. basically felt like I lost power after 20 mins of driving lol. If ur looking for that growl tho, the Injen Power-Flow Cold Air Intake System PF1922WB with the dry filter is probably way better cuz it wont mess up ur MAF sensor like the oiled ones do!! gl!
