I just took delivery of a new Genesis G80 in Vik Black, and the paint looks incredible, but I’m terrified of swirl marks and environmental damage. I know Genesis paint can be a bit softer than some other luxury brands, so I really want to lock in that deep gloss with a high-quality ceramic coating. I'm torn between DIY options like Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light or going to a pro for something like Ceramic Pro or Gyeon. Has anyone here coated their Genesis recently? I’m looking for something that offers great hydrophobic properties and lasts at least 2-3 years. Which specific brands or professional lines have you found provide the best depth and protection for this specific paint?

Honestly, I get the anxiety with that Vik Black paint... Genesis clear coats are notoriously soft so you're right to be cautious. I've been detailing for a long time and I'm a bit of a skeptic when it comes to the newest DIY 'miracle' coatings. If you want something that's actually proven and leans into that 'cautious' side for protection, I'd suggest IGL Coatings Ecocoat Kenzo. It’s a pro-grade 10H dual-layer system that is seriously thick and specifically designed to provide a deep, warm glow on dark colors without being too 'plastic' looking.

If you're still leaning towards the DIY route but want something more substantial than what's been mentioned, check out:

• P&S Detail Products Inspiration Ceramic Coating 30ml - Very user-friendly for an intermediate guy, but offers great chemical resistance.
• CarPro CQuartz Finest Reserve - This is usually pro-only but it's the gold standard for soft paint if you can find a certified installer.

Basically, dont rush it! I'd honestly talk to a pro first cuz if you high-spot that soft black paint, it's a nightmare to fix. Good luck dude!

So basically, ceramic coatings create a hard sacrificial layer that sits on top of your clear coat to prevent those tiny scratches. For your Vik Black Genesis, I think you should honestly go with Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light 30ml if you wanna DIY it.

* Use a good prep spray first to strip oils.
* Apply in a cool, shaded area so it doesnt flash too fast.

I used it on my car and it literally makes washing so much easier. GL!

I went through this last year with my G80. Honestly, I was sooo worried about that soft black paint too. I ended up DIYing with CarPro CQuartz UK 3.0 30ml Kit topped with CarPro Gliss 30ml V2 Top Coat for extra slickness. It really popped the metallic flakes and the water behavior is still insane after 14 months. Idk if it's better than what reply #1 said, but it worked well for me! gl!

Honestly, I get why you're stressed—black paint on a Genesis is basically a full-time job lol. Before you buy anything, big WARNING: do NOT skimp on the prep work. If you don't clay bar and polish perfectly, you're literally just locking those swirls under a glass layer forever. I've seen so many people ruin a DIY job because they rushed the decontaminaton step.

Since you're worried about budget, here's my take: Pro coatings like Ceramic Pro are great cuz of the warranty, but you're gonna pay $1k+ easily. If you're handy, high-end consumer brands like Avalon King or Adam's offer a way better value. I went the DIY route with a graphene-infused coating and it's been holding up sooo well for 2 years now. It cost me maybe $100 total vs $1500 for a pro. Idk, unless you've got the extra cash to burn, a solid DIY kit plus a weekend of elbow grease is definitely the move!! gl!

Honestly, for that soft Vik Black paint, you gotta prioritize hardness. I've been detailing for years and the technical specs on Gyeon Mohs EVO are seriously impressive since they switched to a fluorine-modified polysilazane base. It’s way more chemical resistant than older formulas. Just make sure you check your lighting because black paint is unforgiving. Are you planning to do a full mechanical decontam before the polish? Also, what's your lighting setup like for high-spot detection?
